摘要: A method for operating an internal combustion engine includes first operating the internal combustion engine in a first operating state and setting a second operating state, different from the first operating state, by advancing the exhaust camshaft relative to the crankshaft by a value in comparison with the first operating state. The exhaust valve is actuated by the exhaust cam and a decompression lift of the exhaust camshaft, whereupon, in the second operating state, the cylinder assumes a function of a decompression brake by compressing a first cylinder charge in the cylinder within a respective operating cycle of the internal combustion engine and then decompressing it by a decompression travel of the exhaust valve in a region of a charge exchange top dead center. In the second operating state, the intake camshaft is retarded relative to the crankshaft by a value.

The engine is operated in a skip fire manner such that selected skipped working cycles are skipped and selected active working cycles are fired to deliver a desired engine output. A particular level of torque output is selected for each of the fired working chambers. Various methods, arrangements and systems related to the above method are also described.

摘要: An internal combustion engine for increasing the freedom of the layout of a rocker arm wherein the rocker arm is lighter. The internal combustion engine includes a camshaft having a first exhaust cam and a second exhaust cam, a first exhaust valve, and a second exhaust valve. The internal combustion engine further includes a first rocker arm for actuating the first exhaust valve to open and close, a second rocker arm for actuating the second exhaust valve to open and close, and a decompression mechanism for lifting the first rocker arm in a valve opening direction at the timing of a compression stroke initiated by the internal combustion engine. The first rocker arm and the second rocker arm are provided with an angular movement transmitter for transmitting a turning force produced by a decompression operator in the valve opening direction from the first rocker arm to the second rocker arm.

摘要: A valve actuation system for an internal combustion engine is disclosed. The engine has a first set of cylinders having a first set of exhaust valves and a second set of cylinders having a second set of exhaust valves. The valve actuation system for the exhaust valves includes one or more first cams having a compression-release lobe and a main exhaust lobe adapted to transfer valve actuation motion to the first set of exhaust valves, and one or more second cams having an early exhaust valve opening (EEVO) lobe and a main exhaust lobe adapted to transfer valve actuation motion to the second set of exhaust valves. The valve actuation system may provide any combination of (i) main exhaust valve actuation with or without compression release actuation with (ii) main exhaust valve actuation with or without EEVO for the two sets of cylinders.

摘要: An internal combustion engine system includes a cylinder block with a plurality of cylinders, a gas intake manifold for providing at least air to the cylinder block and an exhaust gas manifold for exiting the exhaust gas from the cylinder block, wherein the exhaust gas manifold includes at least a main exhaust gas outlet and a waste gate exhaust gas outlet, wherein the main exhaust gas outlet is connected to a main exhaust gas pipe for guiding the exhaust gas to a main exhaust gas after treatment system and the waste gate exhaust gas outlet is connected to a waste gate exhaust gas pipe, and wherein the waste gate exhaust gas pipe is reconnected to the main exhaust gas pipe upstream of the main exhaust gas after treatment system and includes at least one waste gate exhaust gas after treatment unit, such as an oxidation catalyst such as a diesel oxidation catalyst, for catalytically treating the exhaust gas streaming through the waste gate exhaust gas pipe, and to a method for increasing the temperature in an internal combustion engine system.

摘要: A method for operating a compression ignition engine includes forming a combustible mixture by mixing generally homogeneously a first fuel and air and introducing this mixture into the at least one cylinder, compressing the combustible mixture with the piston in a compression stroke, injecting a second fuel to the combustible mixture at an injection-time of the second fuel during the compression stroke but before start of combustion, and continuing the compression stroke until combustion starts at those locations in the at least one cylinder where concentration of the second fuel is highest and/or the temperature of the mixture is the highest. Emission of the cylinder and/or mechanical stress of the cylinder caused by the combustion are monitored, and if emissions and/or mechanical stress are above respective predetermined thresholds, individually for the cylinder, the amount and/or the timing of the second fuel injected, and/or temperature of the cylinder charge is changed.

摘要: A valve train system for an internal combustion engine includes an exhaust valve moveable between an exhaust closed position and an exhaust open position. A camshaft includes a main exhaust lobe for moving the exhaust valve between the exhaust closed position and the exhaust open position for expelling exhaust constituents from the combustion chamber and an exhaust rebreath lobe for moving the exhaust valve between the exhaust closed position and the exhaust open position for allowing exhaust constituents into the combustion chamber. A two-step device is provided for transmitting motion from the camshaft to the exhaust valve and is switchable between a motion transmitting position and a motion preventing position such that the motion transmitting position allows motion to be transmitted from the exhaust rebreath lobe to the exhaust valve and the motion preventing position prevents motion from being transmitted from the exhaust rebreath lobe to the exhaust valve.

摘要: An engine includes a variable valve mechanism capable of switching a valve characteristic to a first valve characteristic according to which at least one of an operation of pre-opening an intake valve during an exhaust stroke prior to a valve opening time in an intake stroke and an operation of re-opening an exhaust valve during the intake stroke subsequently to the opening/closing thereof during the exhaust stroke is performed, and to a second valve characteristic according to which neither the pre-opening of the intake valve nor the re-opening of the exhaust valve is performed. In the engine, when the valve characteristic is the first valve characteristic, if the presence of a request for switching to the second valve characteristic resulting from an increase in engine load is detected, a pressure reducing operation for reducing the pressure in an exhaust passage of the engine is performed.
