Abstract:
A method of obtaining a mask for X-ray lithography having a thin oxide film supported on an annular silicon base includes the following steps:(a) deposition of an oxide layer such as titania or zirconia, on a silicon or copper substrate;(b) etching selectively a portion of the backside of the substrate, obtaining a membrane on the etched portion; and(c) obtaining a pattern delineation through a photoresist on the membrane framed by the silicon or copper substrate. The mask prepared according to the present invention does not suffer from any distortion and preserves its accuracy even under the stresses incurred during the mask preparation and use.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a new technique and device for mass transport operation and physical separation, being substantially quantitative and involving selective barriers. According to the new technique, the mass transport through the selective barrier and physical separation are carried out in the same device. The device consists of a mixing-reservoir into which is fitted snugly a mixer-separator, having a channel in the vertical axis of the mixer-separator, the mixer-separator being provided with means for accumulating a gas pocket to decrease the pressure exerted on the barrier. The completely solid-free liquid passing through the selective barrier is removed by pushing in the mixer-separator, said liquid being accumulated in a collecting container. Typical examples of such selective barriers are: membrane, bed of adsorbent material, paper, plastic, glass and metal filters or any other porous material, and hollow fibers. The new technique and device can be successfully utilized in any operation involving separation of solids from liquids and particularly useful in immunoassay, sterilization, ultra-filtration, desalination by reverse and osmosis.
Abstract:
A method for the interseparation of platinum-group noble metals (PGMs) from a gold-free halide solution using at least one chromatographic column. The solution is passed through a column containing a solid absorbent having a Kd above 1 whereby the PGMs are absorbed. The loaded absorbent is eluted by a halide salt solution obtaining thereby well-spaced fractions, each containing only one single noble metal, coming out in the order: Ru, Rh, Pd, Pt, Ir and Cs. When gold is present with the PGMs, its prior removal is required by an additional chromatographic column containing an absorbent based on polystyrene divinyl.

Air-conditioning is carried out using a "hydrogen heat pump" driven by waste heat. The hydrogen heat pump includes at least two and preferably four units, wherein hydrogen passes between low-temperature and high-temperature porous metal hydride compacts, each unit having a pair of heat exchangers associated therewith.
Abstract:
Polymers containing laterally substituted isocyanate groups, prepared from acyl azide monomers and at least one other vinyl monomer, and their preparation are provided. Utilization of the acyl azide monomers avoids the problems in handling and storage of the moisture sensitive and toxic isocyanate monomers.

An hydraulic power transmission circuit comprises a high-pressure section and a low-pressure section, which together include (a) an internal or external combustion free-piston engine to each of whose pistons is attached one piston pump, the pump piston and the engine piston being rigidly connected for the purpose of joint axial motion; (b) at least one rotary motor or linear actuator adapted to be driven by the hydraulic fluid pressurized by the said piston pumps; (c) valve means for directing the hydraulic fluid to and from the motors or actuators; (d) a charge pump; (e) accumulator means for balancing the fluctuations of pressure and quantity of the hydraulic fluid; and (f) means for controlling the operation of the free-piston engine, said means comprising a rotary auxiliary hydraulic motor of the positive displacement type in the low-pressure section of the circuit, which motor is provided with transmission means for driving a rotary distributor at a number of revolutions governed by the frequency of the free-piston engine.
Abstract:
An energy converter unit and X-ray source system are presented. The energy converter unit comprises a multilayered crystal structure having a selected layers' arrangement comprising at least first and second of layers of at least first and second material compositions. The layers-arrangement is formed of a pattern of n1 layers of said first layer type and n2 layers of said second layer type generating a selected lattice periodicity of said layers. The lattice periodicity is selected such that said multilayered crystal structure responds to the charged particle beam of predetermined parameters by coherent emission of X-ray radiation having selected spectral content and emission direction.
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods and systems for enhanced production and/or secretion of extracellular vesicles (EVs) from muscle cells utilizing various dynamic mechanical loading profiles thereon, cultured on three-dimensional (3D) scaffolds. The scaffolds may comprise a plurality of layers, wherein each layer comprises a plurality of elastic microfibers, and wherein the microfibers are aligned in parallel to a longitudinal axis and to each other. The elastic 3D scaffold may be configured to undergo dynamic mechanical loading profiles and support an expansion of a population of muscle cells cultured thereon into a 3D multi-layer structure of muscle cells, wherein said 3D multi-layer structure is configured to produce and/or secret extracellular vesicles into a medium.
