Abstract:
The present invention is directed to enhanced compositions that facilitate the pulling of cables through conduits. In one embodiment, the composition comprises a sufficient amount of boron nitride, which, upon application onto the cable surface, allows the cable to be pulled faster and/or with less force through the conduit than without the boron nitride present. The invention further relates to a method for pulling cables through conduits by applying an effective amount of boron nitride composition onto the cable surface. Lastly, the invention relates to an apparatus for distributing a cable-pulling composition comprising a block of boron nitride onto a cable as it is being pulled through a conduit.
Abstract:
According to one embodiment, a film of solid lubricant particles is applied to metal workpieces, which are then subjected to a controlled humid environment for predetermined times and temperatures. Following the exposure to humidity, the lubricated metal workpieces are heated for a hot forming operation. The humidification of the lubricated workpiece increases the adhesion of solid lubricant films to the metal workpieces, thereby improving the tribological performance of the workpieces during subsequent hot forming operations.
Abstract:
The invention provides a bearing device of a compressor for a refrigerator which can widen a clearance between a sliding surface of a bearing and a surface of a crank shaft at a time of starting, while narrowing the clearance between the sliding surface of the bearing and the surface of the crank shaft at a time of a regular operation of the compressor for the refrigerator. A thickness of a resin sliding layer is set in such a manner that a bearing clearance at a starting time becomes relatively larger than a bearing clearance at a regular operating time within a range which is equal to or more than 2.5% and is equal to or less than 20%. Accordingly, since the bearing clearance becomes larger within the range which is equal to or more than 2.5% and is equal to or less than 20% at the starting time with respect to the regular operating time, while narrowing the bearing clearance for preventing a compression efficiency of the compressor for the refrigerator from being lowered due to a deflection of an axis of a crank shaft, at the regular operating time, it is possible to prevent a sliding surface of a bearing and a surface of the crank shaft from coming into direct contact with each other.
Abstract:
A threaded joint for steel pipes comprises a pin (1) and a box (2) each having a threaded portion (3a or 3b) and an unthreaded metal-to-metal contact portion (4a or 4b) as contact surfaces which contact each other when the joint is fastened. The contact surfaces (3a and 4a and/or 3b and 4b) of at least one of the pin (1) and the box (2) are coated with a lower layer of a solid lubricating coating containing a solid lubricating powder (e.g., molybdenum disulfide, tungsten disulfide, or graphite) and a binder (e.g., an epoxy or other organic resin) and an upper layer of a solid corrosion protective coating formed by an organic resin which does not contain solid particles.
Abstract:
The production of solid lubricant agglomerates by combining solid lubricant powder, an inorganic binder, other fillers if optionally desired, and a liquid to form a mixture, and driving off the liquid to form dry agglomerates which are subsequently classified by size or milled and classified by size to yield agglomerates of a desired size range. These agglomerates are then treated to stabilize the binder, thereby strengthening the binder and rendering it nondispersible in the liquid. The treated agglomerates are then blended or clad with a metal, metal alloy or a metallic composition, to produce a composition suitable for thermal spray applications.
Abstract:
A threaded joint for steel pipes comprised of a pin (1) and a box (2) each having a threaded portion (1a, 2b) and an unthreaded contact portion (1b, 2a) exhibits adequate leakage resistance and galling resistance when used for makeup of oil country tubular goods with application of a green dope or even without any dope. The threaded joint has a first plating layer of Sn—Bi—Cu alloy plating formed on the contact surface of at least one of the pin (1) or the box (2). The first plating layer may have a second plating layer selected from Sn plating, Cu plating, and Ni plating on its lower side and at least one layer of a lubricating coating, and particularly a solid lubricating coating on its upper side.
Abstract:
A sliding bearing having excellent initial conformability and seizure resistance as well as high durability and heat resistance is provided. A sliding bearing comprising a coating layer containing a resin and a solid lubricant formed on a bearing alloy layer, characterized in that the resin of said coating layer is a resin having a glass transition temperature of from 150° C. to 250° C. which has a great elongation at high temperatures.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a solid stick composition comprising a thermosetting resin and a grease. Optionally, the solid stick composition may comprise a lubricant, a friction modifier, a thermoplastic plasticizer or a combination thereof. The solid stick compositions may be used for application between two metal surfaces in sliding and rolling-sliding contact such as steel wheel-rail systems including mass transit and freight systems. A method of reducing energy consumption, or controlling friction between a metal surface and a second metal surface by applying the solid stick composition to one or more than one of the metal surfaces, is also provided.
Abstract:
A solid lubricant and composition useful for lubricating the flanges of locomotive wheels, railcar wheels, rail track and in applications where it is desirable to reduce friction when metal contacts metal. The solid lubricant having from about twenty-five percent to about seventy percent by volume of a polymeric carrier, about five to seventy-five percent by volume of organic and inorganic extreme pressure additives, about zero to twenty percent by volume synthetic extreme pressure anti-wear liquid oil, and about zero to one percent by volume optical brightener.
Abstract:
There is provided a method for surface treatment of a sliding portion of a product, which is an economical method, has less risk of polluting the working environment, or causing a fire by the powder dust, and yet enables high lubricativeness to be achieved, and many concavities to be formed on the sliding portion while simultaneously providing lubricativeness. Injection particles, obtained by blending soft-metal solid lubricant particles the surfaces of which have been oxidized and layered-structure solid lubricant particles, are injected onto a surface of the sliding portion of the product to be treated at an injection speed of 150 m/sec or more, thereby to diffuse and penetrate the surface to form a layer of the injection particles, and to form many concavities on the surface of the sliding portion.
