Abstract: A method for handling power faults in a primary electronic device is provided. The method includes setting a power-off duration to an initial value and powering on a hardware interface. In response to detecting a power fault at the hardware interface, the hardware interface is power-cycled by a plurality of power cycles having progressively increasing power-off durations until a limit is reached. A primary electronic device for carrying out the method is also provided. The primary electronic device includes a controller, a memory, and a hardware interface for coupling the telematics device to a secondary electronic device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for tracking and evaluating fuel consumptions of vehicles are provided. The method can involve operating a telematics device installed in the vehicle to: collect fuel data from at least one fuel data source of the vehicle; track, for each fuel data source, a cumulative amount of fuel consumed by the vehicle; determine a confidence level of each fuel data source; identify an initial fuel data source; generate a plurality of mid-trip fuel records; identify a final fuel data source based on a priority of each fuel data source and each confidence level of each fuel data source; determine whether the plurality of mid-trip fuel records is valid; and transmit the plurality of mid-trip fuel records and an indication of whether the plurality of mid-trip fuel records is valid to a fleet management system.

Abstract: A method, device, and system for managing a fleet of vehicles is disclosed. The method includes providing a telematics device for an electric vehicle of the fleet of vehicles, the telematics device being capable of obtaining data from the electric vehicle; using the telematics device to identify the electric vehicle based on the data obtained from the electric vehicle; providing a data definition set for the electric vehicle to the telematics device; and using the telematics device and the data definition set to determine whether the electric vehicle is in a vehicle mode based on the data obtained from the electric vehicle and the data definition set. The vehicle mode of the electric vehicle can be at least one of a charging mode, a driving mode, and a parked mode.

Abstract: Described herein are various techniques, including a method that uses high-rate acceleration data for computing an accident score indicative of a potential collision and triggering an action in response to determining that the accident score indicates a potential collision. The method includes filtering out undesired high-rate acceleration trigger events such as noise and harsh braking events prior to determining the accident score. The accident score is based on contexts or scores computed from high-rate acceleration data, speed, and GPS data captured by a telematics monitor deployed in a vehicle.

Abstract: The present systems, devices, and methods relate to managing shared vehicle access. Vehicle access can be provided to a candidate user based on whether the user is included in a list of at least one user associated with a respective virtual key. Virtual keys can be created, or lists of at least one user can be updated to include the candidate user, to in turn provide vehicle access. Virtual keys can be stored in a plurality of virtual key slots, with vehicle access being provided based on a virtual key stored in an active key slot. Status reports can be sent to a reservation management device, for updating virtual keys or lists of at least one user.

Abstract: Described herein are various techniques, including systems and non-transitory instructions, that, in response to obtaining information regarding a potential collision between a vehicle and an object, obtain data describing the vehicle for a time period extending before and after a time of the potential collision. The system may determine a likelihood that the potential collision is a non-collision event based on the data describing the vehicle by performing one or more assessments. The assessments may include telematics monitor assessment, driver behavior assessment, road surface feature assessment, trip correlation assessment, and/or context assessment. In response to determining that the likelihood indicates that the potential collision is not a non-collision event, the system may trigger one or more actions responding to the potential collision.

The traffic analysis system compares rest periods to journey criteria to determine whether a rest period delineates the end of a journey, or whether a rest period is still within the journey.
