Abstract:
A backlight provides uniform emanating light for a liquid crystal display. In the backlight, light emitted from a light source is incident on a receiving end surface of a light guide plate and emanates through a top surface toward a liquid crystal panel. A bottom surface includes a reflecting hollow wedge extending along the receiving end surface and varying in depth, as measured from the bottom surface, in correspondence with distance from the end surface. A dividing flat portion orthogonal to the reflecting hollow wedge divides the reflecting hollowed portion, and an output surface includes a prism having parallel ridges extending in a direction orthogonal to the receiving end surface.
Abstract:
The laser transfer machining apparatus comprises a shaping unit for shaping the laser beam so that the laser beam has a beam pattern which corresponds to a desired pattern to be machined in the object to be machined and a generating unit disposed separately from the shaping unit for simultaneously generating a plurality of laser beams each having the beam pattern from the laser beam shaped by the shaping unit. The generating unit is adapted to emit the plural laser beams while simultaneously defining a plurality of radiation directions of the generated plural laser beams to the object to be machined. The laser transfer machining apparatus can provide a high efficiency of utilization of light and reduce the time required for machining. Furthermore, the laser transfer machining apparatus can utilize a laser with a relatively low spatially coherence such as an eximer laser.

An improved attitude control system for tunnel boring machine shields is provided. A laser beam transmitter is installed in an already bored tunnel behind the machine shield for transmitting a laser beam in parallel to a predetermined tunneling direction and a device for receiving the beam is installed in the shield for detecting any deviation of the shield from the beam so that, when the deviation is detected during tunneling work performed by rotating a foreward end cutter head of the shield and propelling the shield toward tunnel face ground with a plurality of jacks installed at rearward end of the shield, the jacks are selectively driven in response to resultant deviational direction and amount of the detection so as to remove the deviation.
Abstract:
Attitude controlling method of tunneling machine shield and system for performing the method, wherein a plurality of jacks installed at a tail end of the shield for propelling the same toward tunnel face ground are selectively driven when the shield deviates from intended tunneling direction. Such deviation detected is first indicated in an indicating and controlling unit and then the unit is operated to actuate an associated circuit connected to the respective jacks in accordance with the indicated deviation so that selective ones only of the jacks effective to correct the deviation will be driven.

A brake-controllable brushless motor has a rotor and a stator having polyphase coils; a polar position detector whereby electric power is supplied to the coil selected by its phase in response to the polar positions of the rotor detected by the polar position detector; a driver division for controlling the electric supply to the coils; a motor pulse identifier for recognizing motor pulse signals fed from the polar position detector; and a delayed pulse generator for producing phase-delayed pulse signals in response to the pulse signals fed from the motor pulse identifier, thereby ensuring that when the brushless motor is braked, the phase delay of the delayed pulse signals is progressively and continuously enlarged, and that the coils receive a controlled electric supply from the driver division in response to the delayed pulse signals.
Abstract:
A reflective liquid crystal display device is integrated with a liquid crystal display panel (1), detects display surface illuminance by a plurality of light sensors (10) provided in the vicinity of the display surface, and in accordance with the detection result, controls luminous intensity of a front light (lighting means) (19) using a lighting control circuit (22) so that the display surface illuminance becomes a predetermined magnitude. Even if the use environment of the reflective liquid crystal display device changes, or more specifically, intensity of external light shone from outside of the device into the display surface varies, the configuration allows controlling automatically the amount of emission from the front light to automatically maintain an appropriate display luminance and to reduce electric power consumption.

Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a thin-film semiconductor includes polycrystallization to focus visible light pulse laser into a line shape on a surface of an object to be irradiated, and repeat irradiation with displacing the visible light pulse laser such that a line-shaped irradiated region is overlapped with a region irradiated at a next timing in a width direction of the line-shaped irradiated region, to form a polycrystalline silicon film on the surface of the object. The step of polycrystallization applies ultraviolet light pulse laser onto a second irradiated region partially overlapping the first irradiated region while or before the visible light pulse laser is applied to the first irradiated region.

A method of fabricating a thin-film of a semiconductor material includes: a scanning irradiation step of, in order to form a polycrystalline silicon film on the surface of a substrate, focusing first pulse laser light having a visible wavelength into a line shape having an intensity distribution of an approximately Gaussian shape in a width direction on the surface of the substrate and applying the light such that the line shape is shifted in the width direction; an edge processing step of, after performing the scanning irradiation step in one position in one direction, applying second pulse laser light having an ultraviolet wavelength to an end region of an edge parallel to the width direction of a region having undergone the scanning irradiation; and a step of applying the scanning irradiation step again to cover a region that is adjacent to the region covered by the scanning irradiation step as well as overlaps the end region having undergone the edge processing step.
Abstract:
In a driving circuit of a spontaneous light emitting display device driven as an active matrix, a noise current is prevented from flowing in a light emitting element when compensating for a threshold voltage of a transistor for controlling current flowing to the emitting element, enhancing precision in luminance. A switching element for short-circuiting electrodes of the spontaneous light emitting element for a period in which the noise current flows in the light emitting element bypasses the noise current.
