Abstract: An electric vehicle, an electric drive system and method of operating the electric vehicle. The electric drive system provides a torque to a wheel of the electric vehicle. The processor is configured to obtain a value of the torque at which the electric drive system of the vehicle is operating, determine an optimal speed for the vehicle for the torque based on an efficiency model of the electric drive system, wherein the optimal speed corresponds to an optimal drive efficiency for the electric drive system, and operate the vehicle at the optimal speed.

Abstract: A fault diagnostic system includes: memory including a fault model, the fault model including: a plurality of failure modes of a vehicle; and symptoms respectively associated with each of the failure modes; an updating module configured to: based on a data set, determine a new failure mode that is not already included in the fault model and new symptoms indicative of the occurrence of the new failure mode; modify the fault model by: adding the new failure mode to the fault model; and adding the new symptoms to the fault model in association with the new failure mode; and re-save the fault model in the memory.

The engine system also includes a controller programmed to receive data indicative of at least one upcoming driving event, and issue a command to impart a predetermined velocity profile based on the upcoming driving event. The predetermined velocity profile is arranged to optimize a performance attribute of the combustion engine and preempt the driver input.

Abstract: Disclosed are engine torque and emission control (ETEC) systems, methods for using such systems, and motor vehicles with engines employing ETEC schemes. An ETEC system is disclosed for operating an internal combustion engine (ICE) assembly. The system includes an engine sensor for monitoring engine torque, an exhaust sensor for monitoring nitrogen oxide (NOx) output of the ICE assembly, and an engine control unit (ECU) communicatively connected to the engine sensor, exhaust sensor, and ICE assembly. The ECU is programmed to: receive desired engine torque and desired NOx output data; determine, from current engine torque and current NOx output data, desired engine torque, and desired NOx output, desired engine operation and exhaust operation references; determine, from the desired engine operation and exhaust operation references, an engine operation control command and an exhaust operation control command; and regulate operation of the ICE assembly via the engine operation and exhaust operation control commands.

Abstract: A pressure management system includes a pressure plate configured to be disposed at an initial position relative to a battery cell in a housing, the initial position including a first orientation, a tilting assembly configured to allow the pressure plate to change from a first orientation to a second orientation based on the expansion force being non-uniform. The system includes a mechanical linkage attached to the pressure plate and configured to move laterally in response to the expansion force and translate the expansion force to a reactive force, and a biasing system including a biasing member configured to resist a lateral movement of the mechanical linkage. The biasing system is configured to apply a biasing force that causes the mechanical linkage to apply the reactive force, and based on the expansion force being non-uniform, is controllable to change the biasing force to balance an internal pressure of the cell.

Abstract: A vehicle includes an apparatus for performing a method of controlling a pressure within a battery. The battery is disclosed between a support plate at a first side of the battery and a pressure plate disposed at a second side of the battery opposite the first side. The pressure plate is movable with respect to the support plate to control the pressure of the battery and including a first plate wedge. The first actuator wedge is moved parallel to the pressure plate with the first actuator wedge in contact with the first plate wedge to control a force applied by the first actuator wedge to the first plate wedge to move the pressure plate with respect to the support plate. Moving the pressure plate controls the pressure within the battery.

Abstract: A system for control of a battery system includes a processor electrically connected to the battery system. The processor is configured to perform, in real time during a charging process, acquiring a set of charging parameter measurements, and estimating a dynamic performance variable in real time, the dynamic performance variable related to an electrochemical phenomenon occurring within the battery system during the charging process. The processor is also configured to perform, in real time during the charging process, determining a charging limit based on the dynamic performance variable and a model of the battery system, predicting a future state of the battery system, generating a target current profile based on the future state and the charging limit, the target current profile configured to maintain the dynamic performance variable within the charging limit, and controlling the current applied to the battery system based on the target current profile.

Abstract: A system for estimating a parameter of a battery assembly includes a sensing device connected to a cell of the battery assembly, the battery assembly having a first battery chemistry, the sensing device including a measurement cell having a second battery chemistry that is different than the first battery chemistry. The system includes an estimator configured to acquire a set of first estimates of a first state of charge (SOC) of the battery assembly, acquire a set of second estimates of a second SOC of the sensing device, and blend the sets of estimates to generate a blended SOC relation describing the second SOC of the sensing device as a function of the first SOC of the battery assembly. The estimator is also configured to filter the set of first estimates using the blended SOC relation to generate a final estimate of the SOC of the battery assembly.
