Abstract: A method is designed to provide platooning information using a multi-focal plane augmented reality display of a host vehicle. The method includes receiving platooning data from at least one of a plurality of remote vehicles. Each of the plurality of remote vehicle is part of a platoon. The platooning data includes locations, trajectories, and headways of each of the plurality of remote vehicles. The method further includes determining whether the platoon is within a predetermined distance from the host vehicle using the platooning data. Further, the method includes transmitting a command signal to the multi-focal plane augmented reality display of the host vehicle to display a virtual image on the multi-focal plane augmented reality display. The virtual image is indicative of a platooning action related to the platoon that is within the predetermined distance from the host vehicle.

Abstract: A system for directing projections within a vehicle includes a projector for producing a projected image. The system also includes a projection directing module in optical communication with the projector for directing the projected image to a predetermined location. The system also includes a projection surface upon which the projected image is projected. The system also includes a controller in electrical communication with the projector and the projection directing module. The controller is programmed to configure the projection directing module to direct the projected image to a projection region of the projection surface. The controller is further programmed to project the projected image on the projection region using the projector and the projection directing module.

Abstract: A method of using a system for generating a centrally located floating image display includes displaying a first image with a first display, receiving and reflecting the first image with a first reflector, displaying, a second image with a second display, receiving and reflecting the second image with a second reflector, displaying first private information to the first passenger and second private information to the second passenger with a transparent display positioned between the first passenger and the first reflector and between the second passenger and the second reflector, receiving input from the first and second passengers with the system controller, collecting images with an external scene camera, collecting data related to a driving environment of the vehicle, and incorporating the data within at least one of the first image, the second image, and first and second private information displayed on the transparent display.

Abstract: A display system for a vehicle includes a light source configured to emit a light and a fiber-optic cable coupled to the light source. The fiber-optic cable has a first fiber end and a second fiber end opposite the first fiber end. The first fiber end is coupled to the light source. The second fiber end is attached to a vehicle body of a vehicle. The display system includes a piezoelectric actuator coupled to the fiber-optic cable end adjacent to the second fiber end. The piezoelectric actuator is actuated to vibrate the second fiber end of the fiber-optic cable to project an image on the vehicle body adjacent the second fiber end while the light source is activated.

Abstract: A system for calibrating a display for a vehicle includes a reference calibration system including a reference windscreen and a reference transparent windscreen display (TWD) projector including a reference TWD camera. The reference calibration system also includes a reference camera and a reference controller in electrical communication with the reference TWD projector and the reference camera. The reference controller is programmed to project a reference graphic on the reference windscreen using the reference TWD projector. The reference controller is further programmed to capture a first reference image of the reference graphic using the reference camera. The reference controller is further programmed to calculate at least one reference calibration matrix based at least in part on the first reference image of the reference graphic.

Abstract: A hybrid augmented reality head-up display system for displaying graphics upon a windscreen of a vehicle includes a windscreen having a transparent substrate including light emitting particles dispersed within, a primary graphic projection device for generating a first set of images upon the windscreen of the vehicle based on visible light, and a secondary graphic projection device for generating a second set of images upon a secondary area the windscreen of the vehicle based on an excitation light. The first set of images are displayed upon a primary area of the windscreen. The light emitting particles in the windscreen emit visible light in response to absorbing the excitation light. The first set of images displayed upon the primary area of the windscreen cooperate with the second set of images displayed upon the secondary area of the windscreen to create an edge-to-edge augmented reality view.

Abstract: A multi-view display device is provided for a collaborative co-pilot system (system) of a vehicle having a windshield. The system includes one or more input devices for generating an input signal associated with a road condition. The multi-view display device includes one or more single-user viewing devices, with each single-user viewing device including an Augmented Reality Head Up Display module (ARHUD) for generating a dedicated display associated with the road condition. The ARHUD projects the dedicated display onto an associated portion of the windshield that is visible to a corresponding single user and overlaying a road geometry associated with the road condition. The multi-view display device further includes an Extended View Display module (EV display module) for generating a common display that is visible to a plurality of users including each one of the single users.
