    摘要: A method for controlling exhaust gas emissions from an engine (16) includes extracting a light distillate fuel (Fd) from conventional gasoline or other liquid hydrocarbon fuel and supplying the engine with the light distillate fuel during an initial operation period of the engine. This reduces the oxidizable pollutants in the engine exhaust during a cold-start period before a catalytic converter (22) used to abate pollutants in the engine exhaust gases has not yet attained its operating temperature. After the catalytic converter (22) has been sufficiently heated, the fuel supply to the engine (16) is switched to gasoline or other liquid hydrocarbon fuel. Both the distillate fuel (Fd) and the liquid hydrocarbon fuel may be passed through a heated cracking catalyst bed (30) to crack the fuel fed to the engine.

    摘要: A catalyst composition comprising an amorphous sulfide of trivalent chromium and at least one metal selected from the group consisting of (a) molybdenum, tungsten and mixture thereof and (b) mixtures of (a) with Fe, Ni, Co, Mn, Cu, Zn and mixture thereof is prepared by heating one or more precursors at a temperature of at least about 200.degree. C. under oxygen-free conditions in the presence of a sulfur, wherein said precursor is selected from the group consisting of [Cr.sub.1-z M.sub.z LX.sub.y ](MoS.sub.4).sub.n, [Cr.sub.1-z M.sub.z LX.sub.y ](WS.sub.4).sub.n and mixtures thereof, wherein M is one or more divalent promoter metals selected from the group consisting of Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn and mixtures thereof, wherein L is one or more neutral nitrogen-containing ligands, wherein ligand X is a singly-charged anionic species and wherein 1>z.gtoreq.0, 1-z.gtoreq.y.gtoreq.0, and wherein n equals (3-z-y)/2. These compositions have been found to be good hydroprocessing catalysts, particularly hydrotreating catalysts exhibiting a very high hydrodenitrogenation activity and/or selectivity in nitrogen and sulfur-containing hydrocarbon feeds.

The catalyst system provides polymers having increased isotactic stereoregularity as well as lower catalyst residue.

The present invention includes a method to prepare the catalyst composition and a method to use the catalyst composition as a three-way catalyst. The composition results in a coated layer from a slurry where the more supported first precious metal component is in the bottom half and more supported second precious metal component is in the top half.

    摘要: A method of improving the performance of a pollutant abatement means, e.g., catalytic converter (16), used to purify engine exhaust gas streams and the like includes combusting a combustion mixture of air and a low ignition temperature fuel in the exhaust gas stream upstream of the catalytic converter (16) to oxidize carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons, and/or to rapidly heat the catalytic converter to its operating temperature. Reaction conditions are maintained so as to cause the combustion mixture to ignite spontaneously. A control system may be used to regulate the supply of the combustion mixture in response to time lapse or temperature of the catalyst or both. The apparatus includes a fuel supply (18) and a fuel line (20) controlled by a valve (22) to deliver a low ignition temperature fuel into the exhaust gas discharge line (14) associated with the engine (12). An air pump (26) provides combustion air through an air line (28) into the exhaust gas discharge line (14). Optionally, a thermocouple (36) attached to the catalytic converter (16) signals a controller (38) to reduce or stop the flow of air and/or low ignition temperature fuel in response to the temperature of the catalytic converter (16).

    摘要: A process for producing relatively pure metal phosphorus trisulfides of the formula MPS.sub.3 wherein M is a metal selected from the group consisting of Mg, Ca, Sr, V, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Pd, Zn, Cd, Hg, Sn, Pb, Sm, Eu, Yb and mixtures thereof, said process comprising contacting in a reaction zone, phosphides of said metals of the formula M.sub.x P.sub.y, wherein the ratio of y/x ranges between 1/8 to 5/1, with one or more compounds of the formula PS.sub.z wherein z ranges from 1-3 and is preferably 2, said PS.sub.z being present in the reaction zone in an amount sufficient to exceed the amount of P and S stoichiometrically required to form the desired MPS.sub.3, at a temperature ranging from about 300.degree.-600.degree. C. and confined so as to maintain the PS.sub.z present in the reaction zone as a gas in equilibrium with its liquid for a time sufficient to produce said relatively pure metal phosphorus trisulfide.
