Abstract: Disclosed herein are improved nanozymes for targeting RNA. The disclosed nanozymes are synthesized using recombinant RNase A with site-specific cysteine-substituted mutations that can be covalently functionalized with a length-tunable multi-thiol tether and then loaded onto gold particles through multiple gold-sulfur bonds. This new RNase A loading mechanism is site specific, and it allows high-density loading of alkylthiol modified DNA oligonucleotides. The disclosed nanozymes can also include additional capturer strands and/or involve DNA-recombinant-RNase-A unibodies to further increase the nanozyme's enzymatic activity and target selectivity. Also disclosed are functional on-off switchable nanozymes to control nanozyme activity. In some embodiments, the disclosed nanozyme are core-free hollow forms. The removal of the inorganic nanoparticle cores from nanozymes can effectively eliminate the potential long-term toxicity induced by the core, and also creates a cavity for loading and delivery of small molecule drugs.

Abstract: A photovoltaic system is formed as a window that is constructed of at least one polymer layer that is filled or decorated with metal nanoparticles and a window frame that includes one or more photovoltaic cells. The metal nanoparticles have a shape and size such that they display surface plasmon resonance frequencies in the near-infrared and/or the near-ultraviolet. The near-infrared and/or the near-ultraviolet radiations are scattered such that they are transmitted parallel to the face of the window to the photovoltaic cells, where an electrical current is generated.

Abstract: Various examples are provided related to autonomous unmanned drone-tethered sonar systems. In one embodiment, a bathy-drone system includes an unmanned payload vessel and an unmanned drone tethered to the payload vessel through the tether attachment point. The unmanned payload vessel can include a sensor or sensor suite coupled to a bottom of the payload vessel and a tether attachment point through which propulsive force can be applied to the payload vessel. The drone can autonomously transport the payload vessel to and from a survey location and autonomously propel the payload vessel along a survey path at the survey location.

Abstract: Emerging evidence indicates that diminished activity of the vasoprotective axis of the renin-angiotensin system, constituting angiotensin converting enzyme2 (ACE2) and its enzymatic product, angiotensin-(1-7) [Ang-(1-7)] contribute to pulmonary hypertension (PH). However, clinical success for long-term delivery of ACE2 or Ang-(1-7) would require stability and ease of administration to increase patient compliance. Chloroplast expression of therapeutic proteins enables their bioencapsulation within plant cells to protect from acids and gastric enzymes; fusion to a transmucosal carrier facilitates effective systemic absorption. Oral feeding of rats with bioencapsulated ACE2 or Ang-(1-7) attenuated monocrotaline (MCT)-induced increase in right ventricular systolic pressure, decreased pulmonary vessel wall thickness and improved right heart function in both prevention and reversal protocols. Furthermore, combination of ACE2 and Ang-(1-7) augmented the beneficial effects against cardio-pulmonary pathophysiology induced by MCT administration.
Experiments have also been performed which indicate that this approach is also suitable for the treatment or inhibition of experimental uveitis and autoimmune uveoretinitis These studies provide proof-of-concept for a novel low-cost oral ACE2 or Ang-(1-7) delivery system using transplastomic technology for pulmonary and ocular disease therapeutics.-

Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments related to coordinated monitoring and responding to an emergency situation at a building structure as a supplement to a traditional emergency response. In some embodiments, a system comprises a computing device that is configured to receive sensor data from a sensor network. The sensor network includes monitoring units that monitor various locations of an infrastructure. The computing device determines an occurrence of an emergency event at a location in the infrastructure using an anomaly detector model based at least in part on the sensor data. A hybrid mobile unit is instructed by the computing device to navigate to the location of the emergency event. The hybrid mobile unit is configured to provide mobile sensor data associated with the location to confirm the emergency event.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a hydrogel comprising hyaluronic acid polymers that are at least partially crosslinked with fibrinogen molecules. Also disclosed is a composition comprising a glycidyl methacrylate hyaluronic acid monomer chemically conjugated to a fibrinogen molecule. Also disclosed is a method for producing a hydrogel that involves combining the disclosed composition containing GMHA-Fib precursors with an effective amount of a photoinitiator and light (e.g. UV light) to crosslink unconjugated methacrylate sites through free-radical polymerization. Also disclosed is a method for treating a subject with a peripheral nerve injury that involves implanting the disclosed hydrogel at the site of the injury to promote neural regeneration.
