摘要: A therapeutic ischemic and reperfusion device with an associated monitoring system for generally enhancing the vascular and metabolic environment and wellbeing of a subject. A method for the treatment and prophylaxis of various medical conditions including environmental induced oxidative stress using the therapeutic ischemic and reperfusion device and associated monitoring system is also contemplated herein. The method uses an inflatable cuff around the limb or torso of a subject operated by a controller configured to inflate and deflate the cuff. The monitoring system is used to monitor the physical and metabolic environments of the subject during and subsequent to the ischemia and reperfusion.

摘要: An automatic portable ambulant miniaturized system for applying pneumatic pressure to a body limb including a portable ambulant hand-held fluid source unit, a conduit for delivering fluid generated by the unit, and a pressure sleeve coupled to the conduit and adapted to envelop a body limb. The pressure sleeve contains individually inflatable cells, each cell being subdivided into longitudinally extending confluent intra-cell compartments along the axis of the body limb. The intra-cell compartments are inflated and deflated essentially simultaneously by the portable fluid source unit. To increase the peak venous velocity generated by any kind of external compressive force on a limb with any kind of tempo-spatial regime, the venous phasic flow is monitored to determine so that the venous flow generated by the external compressive force can be synchronized with the in-phasic natural venous flow.

摘要: A counterpulsation system for enhancing blood flow in a patient includes inflatable cuffs positionable on a leg of a patient. Three cuffs are preferably used for positioning on the calf, thigh, and buttocks. The cuffs are inflated in accordance with a timing sequence during diastole to enhance cerebral blood flow, and are then deflated. The process is repeated several times throughout a treatment session. A blood velocity sensor such as a transcranial Doppler (TCD) system detects cerebral blood flow velocity during treatment. The TCD output produces a first peak P1 corresponding to the blood flow velocity during a contraction of the heart and a second peak P2 corresponding to blood flow velocity resulting from the compression forces of the cuffs. If P2 does not exceed P1, the timing sequence is manually or automatically altered to optimize the effect of the compression sequence during diastole.

摘要: Therapeutic devices and methods according to embodiments of the invention alleviate e.g. urinary incontinence in female and male patients. Suction or vacuum, for example, is applied to the genital region, clitoris or clitoral region, the external urethral orifice, and/or other designated areas, e.g. physically stimulating the sacral/pudendal nerves and/or nerve roots and alleviating incontinence. Such embodiments also can encourage or cause clitoral engorgement, or otherwise promote blood flow in the genital region. Vacuum or suction applied to e.g. the clitoris creates a negative pressure in the clitoris that is lower than the systolic blood pressure, tending to promote engorgement of the clitoris with blood. Aspects of the invention are applicable not only to treatment of urinary and fecal incontinence, but also to the treatment of female sexual dysfunction. Aspects of the invention are also applicable to treatment of male incontinence and male erectile dysfunction.
