Abstract:
It is disclosed a method of depositing a seal coating and a seal system comprising at least two layers on the surface of an article. The upper or surface layer has a higher chromium activity than a bottom layer, to reduce a diffusion of cobalt and the formation of cobalt oxide is reduced. The coating of invention may be heat-treated to reduce or optimize the formation of cobalt oxide to sustain the wear property.
Abstract:
A system for coating a surface comprises providing a source of amorphous metal, providing ceramic particles, and applying the amorphous metal and the ceramic particles to the surface by a spray. The coating comprises a composite material made of amorphous metal that contains one or more of the following elements in the specified range of composition: yttrium (≧1 atomic %), chromium (14 to 18 atomic %), molybdenum (≧7 atomic %), tungsten (≧1 atomic %), boron (≦5 atomic %), or carbon (≧4 atomic %).

Abstract:
A coating and method for overcoating a TBC on a component used in a high-temperature environment, such as the combustor section of an industrial gas turbine. The coating defines the outermost surface of the component and is formed of at least two layers having different compositions. An inner layer of the coating contains alumina in a first silica-containing matrix material that is free of zinc titanate. An outer layer of the coating contains alumina, a glass material, and zinc titanate in a second silica-containing matrix material. The outer layer of the coating has a surface roughness of not greater than three micrometers Ra and forms the outermost surface of the component. The coating reduces the component temperature by reducing the convective and radiant heat transfer thereto.
Abstract:
Coating systems according to the prior art, wherein a ceramic layer is applied to a metallic layer of the coating system, the connection between metal and ceramic often being poor.A coating system (20) according to the invention has a porous layer (4) in which a ceramic (7) is at least partly disposed, so that the connection between ceramic (7) and the metal of the porous layer (4) is improved.
Abstract:
An absorber with a radiation-selective absorber coating is described, which includes a metal substrate, a diffusion-blocking layer, a metallic reflective layer, a cermet layer and an anti-reflective layer. The diffusion-blocking layer is an oxide layer, which includes oxidized components of the metal substrate. The method for making this sort of absorber includes tempering the surface of the substrate, on which the absorber coating is provided, in air in an oven at a temperature of 400 to 600° C. for 0.5 to 2 hours.
Abstract:
Tableware of Ti or a Ti alloy having a surface hardened layer comprising a first hardened layer in which nitrogen and oxygen are diffused so as to form a solid solution and a second hardened layer which is formed in a region deeper than the first hardened layer. The substrate may have a hard decorative coating film. A substrate comprising Ti or a Ti alloy has on its surface an internal hardened layer comprising a first hardened layer and a second hardened layer, wherein the hard decorative coating film is formed on the surface of the internal hardened layer. The cutlery comprises a working part and a grip, the grip provided with a floating means such as a hollow part. Titanium tableware having excellent long-term mar resistance and high quality appearance, increasing the decorative value of the tableware. Further, a process for surface treatment to obtain the titanium tableware with high productivity and a substrate having a hard decorative coating film with excellent mar resistance and high surface hardness. The cutlery is lightweight, mar-resistant and can be easily handled.
Abstract:
A component (10) including a substrate material (12) and a wear alloy coating (14) applied to the substrate by a cold spray process. Particles of the wear alloy coating material (16) are directed toward a target surface (18) of the substrate at a velocity sufficiently high for the particles to deform and to adhere to the target surface. The size and/or composition of the particles may be varied during the cold spray process to produce a coating with a varying property across the depth of the coating. Particles of the wear alloy material may be applied by cold spraying along with particles of a second material such as a lubricant or a ceramic material. For Group 5 hard facing materials, the size and distribution of the embedded carbide nodules may be controlled by controlling the selection of the carbide particles being sprayed. The cold spray process permits a wear alloy coating to be applied proximate a brazed joint or over a directionally stabilized or single crystal material without degrading the underlying material.
Abstract:
High areal density magnetic recording media exhibiting low noise are formed with a Ni—P—X plating layer, in which X is an additive meeting the following requirement: (1) The additive has a higher oxidation potential than that of Ni so that grains of an additive-rich-oxide will form first during oxidation under a controlled atmosphere and grains of a Ni-rich-oxide, if any, will form subsequently and separately from the grains of the additive-rich oxide. (2) The additive has a tendency to segregate to the top surface. (3) The additive is not a catalyst poison for Ni—P plating in the composition range.
Abstract:
The disclosure relates to a process for forming a deposit on the surface of a metallic or conductive surface. The process employs an electrolytic process to deposit a mineral containing coating or film upon a metallic or conductive surface.
