Abstract: AN OSCILLATOR APPLIES TIMING SIGNALS TO AN INVERTER LOGIC ARRANGEMENT FOR GOVERNING THE FREQUENCY OF THE INVERTER OUTPUT A-C VOLTAGE SUPPLIED TO A MOTOR. THE AMPLITUDE OF THE A-C VOLTAGE APPLIED TO THE MOTOR IS ADJUSTED BY SUITABLE CONTROL MEANS WHICH RECEIVES A REGULATING SIGNAL FROM A COMPARATOR. A FIRST SIGNAL CHANNEL INCLUDES A FEEDBACK NETWORK, AND APPLIES TO THE COMPARATOR A FIRST CONTROL SIGNAL WHICH INDICATES THE EFFECTIVE AMPLITUDE OF THE INVERTER VOLTAGE. A SECOND SIGNAL CHANNEL IS CONNECTED BETWEEN THE OSCILLATOR AND THE COMPARATOR TO PROVIDE A SECOND CONTROL SIGNAL RELATED TO THE FREQUENCY OF THE OSCILLATOR OUTPUT. THE COMPARATOR OUTPUT SIGNAL IS A FUNCTION OF BOTH AMPLITUDE AND FREQUENCY, AND DRIVES THE CONTROL MEANS TO MAIN A PRESET RATIO BETWEEN AMPLITUDE AND FREQUENCY OF THE A-C VOLTAGE PASSED TO THE MOTOR.

Abstract: A motor drive system includes a direct current (DC) bus that provides a DC link voltage across a DC link capacitor, and a split DC link mid-point circuit connected in parallel with the DC link capacitor. The split DC link mid-point circuit establishes a mid-point reference based on the DC link voltage. A power inverter is in signal communication with the DC bus. The power inverter includes one or more gate driver units configured to drive one or more corresponding switches. Each gate driver unit includes a mid-point ground connection that is connected to the mid-point reference. The split DC link mid-point circuit can define a voltage divide that establishes the mid-point reference and can be used to monitor the DC link voltage.

Abstract: A control system for a power generation system includes a generator coupled to a turbine via a shaft. The control system includes a memory storing instructions. The control system also includes a processor coupled to the memory and configured to execute the instructions. When the instructions are executed it causes the processor to receive a direct current (DC)-link voltage from an automatic voltage regulator (AVR), wherein the AVR is configured to control voltage characteristics of the generator, and to determine a speed of the generator based on the DC-link voltage.

Abstract: A control system for actively damping an output of an adjustable speed drive (ASD) having a DC link thin film capacitor is programmed to calculate a d-axis damping coefficient and a q-axis damping coefficient for stabilizing an output of the ASD based at least on a voltage across the DC link thin film capacitor at a steady operating point. The control system is further programmed to extract d-axis and q-axis perturbations in d-axis and q-axis output currents of the ASD using a high pass filter, damp the d-axis perturbation and the q-axis perturbation with the d-axis damping coefficient and the q-axis damping coefficient, respectively, and calculate a damping frequency based on the damped d-axis perturbation and the damped q-axis perturbation. The control system is also programmed to damp an angle of rotation of a reference motor speed command for controlling the ASD using the damping frequency.

The drive motor (205) is undersized for driving the pump unit (2) at a design input voltage (U0) to provide a lower head (H) than the desired head (H0) at zero flow rate in the non-field-weakening mode and for driving the pump unit (2) to provide the desired head (H0) at zero flow rate in the field-weakening mode.

Abstract: An adjustable speed drive (ASD) circuit includes a rectifier bridge to convert an AC power input to a DC power, a DC link coupled to the rectifier bridge to receive the DC power, a DC link capacitor bank comprising at least first and second capacitors connected to the DC link, each capacitor having a capacitor voltage thereacross, and a protection circuit including a detection circuit configured to detect a short circuit on one or more of the first and second capacitors of the DC link capacitor bank and generate an action signal upon detection of a short circuit on one or more of the first and second capacitors of the DC link capacitor bank. The ASD circuit also includes an action circuit in operable communication with the detection circuit and configured to cause a short circuit across the DC link upon receiving the action signal from the detection circuit.
