Abstract:
A vehicle wheel having a tire mounted on a wheel rim with a precured and foamed elastomeric material in a closed cavity in the tire and a polyurethane formed in the closed cavity around the precured and foamed elastomeric material.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a pneumatic tire having its internal cavity filled with a closed cellular rubber contained within the tire cavity by a non-foamed rubber layer.
Abstract:
A mold for molding a foamed tube for a tire is formed from a first mold and a second mold. Each mold has an annular concave portion for tube molding, and joining faces which are continuous with the annular concave portion and are formed at an inner side and an outer side, in a radial direction, of the annular concave portion. Each of the joining faces of the first mold and the joining faces of the second mold has horizontal joining faces provided adjacent to the annular concave portion in a direction orthogonal to an axial direction at a radially inner side and a radially outer side of the annular concave portion, and an inclined joining face provided continuously with the horizontal joining face so as to be inclined with respect to the horizontal joining face at one of an inner side and an outer side in the radial direction.
Abstract:
A tire, and an apparatus and method for forming a tire. The tire may either be a tubed or tubeless tire, and is filled with a mixture of virgin rubber and small rubber pieces. Preferably, a machine grinds the core of used flatproofed tires, or pieces thereof, into a finely communicated pulverulent. The pulverent is mixed with liquid virgin flatproofing material, such as a polyurethane. An injector introduces this mixture, into the core of a tire, typically through a valve. The core of the tire is preferably substantially filled with this mixture. The injector may take the form of one or more elongated screws and the mixing may occur as the ground rubber is being conveyed by the screw.
Abstract:
The preferred embodiment is directed to a pneumatic tire having a plurality of layers of high density foam rubber formed therein and methods of manufacturing and installing the layers therein. The preferred method of forming the layers of fill to be inserted in the pneumatic tire casing includes the following steps. Forming an elongated strip of elastomeric material of a size sufficient to form at least two concentric layers in a predetermined size casing of a pneumatic tire at a manufacturing site. At least one dimension of the elongated strip is the same as at least one dimension of the two concentric layers when inserted in the casing. Formulating data sheet having information from which the elongated strips can be cut to form the at least two layers for at least one predetermined condition. Transporting the elongated strip of the elastomeric material and the data sheet to an installation site remote from the manufacturing site.
Abstract:
An elastomer obtained by reacting at a specific ratio an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer formed by reacting at a specific ratio of polymer containing a diene polymer having a terminal hydroxyl group with a diisocyanate compound, with a curing agent having a terminal hydroxyl or amine group, is especially excellent as a tire filling material. A tire prepared by filling this elastomer is valuable as an elastic tire of a public vehicle.
Abstract:
Self-sealing pneumatic tire having a oil treated, integral, thin, covulcanized, resilient, rubber, closed cell structure on its inner surface in which the vulcanized rubber of said closed cell structure contains compounded rubber processing oil and, in its vulcanized state, is further treated to absorb an additional non-volatile oil.
Abstract:
The applicator includes two elongated conveyor rollers arranged in parallel alignment and inclined from a sealant application station toward a tire unloading station. The rollers simultaneously rotate a series of tires in the same direction about a common axis in side-by-side engagement with one end tire adjacent the sealant application station and the other end tire adjacent the unloading station. A kicker assembly unloads the latter end tire, whereupon the rollers advance the remaining tires toward the unloading station while maintaining coaxial rotation thereof. A fresh tire then may be positioned at the application station and the application and advancement steps repeated. The applicator further includes a sealant applicator for effecting airless spray application of sealant to a tire, together with a control system for controlling the position of the spray applicator and causing sealant to be purged a predetermined time after no sealant application is made. The applicator is suited for usage in a system for producing self-healing tires.
Abstract:
A tire prepared by molding in one or more first molds of at least two separate annular tire body parts of an elastomer composition and stabilizing same, a set of said tire body parts forming a complete tire body exclusive of tread, transferring said parts to a second annular mold which positions them in the same relationship to one another that they will have in the completed tire and introducing into said second mold a predetermined quantity of an elastomer composition to join said parts and form an annular tread about the crown thereof.
Abstract:
A flat free pneumatic tire comprising a casing and a void free elastomeric filling material, which filling material is a polyurethane of (a) prepolymer of organic polyisocyanate and defined polyether or defined polyester and (b) a defined polyether or defined polyester, in the absence of foam producing material in the reaction zone. The elastomeric filling material itself. A two container article (system) adapted for producing said void free filling material where one container has said prepolymer reactant and the other container has the polyether or polyester reactant, as required.
