摘要： A coated medical implant, such as a coated dental component, is provided, the coated medical implant including a substrate surface formed of a material comprising available hydroxyl groups and a silicon oxide coating layer chemisorbed on the substrate surface. A method for the preparation of such coated implants is also provided, the method involving application of the silicon oxide coating layer to the substrate surface by chemical vapor deposition. A dental structure is also provided, which includes a first dental component having a substrate surface formed of a material comprising available hydroxyl groups; a silicon oxide coating layer chemisorbed on the substrate surface; a silane coupling agent overlying and covalently attached to the silicon oxide layer; a dental cement overlying and coupled to the silane coupling agent; and a second dental component having a surface bonded to the dental cement.

摘要： An ultra high strength plastic mesh reinforcing material for forming a dental appliance or prosthesis, a method of fabricating a prosthesis therewith and a dental prosthesis made thereby are provided. The material is in the shape of a ribbon and formed of fibers, preferably of ultra high strength polyethylene, that are woven into a matrix in which yarns of the fibers preferably extend at angles to the transverse extent of the ribbon to permit the ribbon to be shaped through the adjusting of its width by a practitioner. Such yarns are preferably braided, so that diagonally angled fibers will result and no fibers are cut along the edges of the ribbon. The braid is preferably a two-over/two-under pattern that utilizes an odd number of carriers. The fibers are preferably surface activated, such as by a cold plasma treatment to enhance adherence of resin of which the appliance or prosthesis is formed.

摘要： A method of fabricating "adjustment-free" artificial dentures and a jig therefor. A precise jaw model is formed by pouring soft plaster into the concave surface of a precise provisional denture formed by any conventional dental procedure. A plaster block is formed having a recess conforming to the actual shape of the provisional denture. The recess is filled with a synthetic resin compound and then the precise jaw model is moved into the recess to form a plenum defined by the concave surface in the recess and the convex surface of the precise jaw model. During polymerization, any excess synthetic resin compound spilling over from the plenum can escape into a relatively wide clearance between the precise jaw model and the plaster block thus enabling the plenum to retain its original shape. The use of the precise jaw model eliminates the prior art problems associated with a narrow gap inherently formed between the contiguous surfaces of the upper and lower plaster blocks of the conventional flask, into which the curing synthetic resin compound penetrates to disturb the dimensional relationship of the plenum.

摘要： Duplicatable maxillary denture materials, e.g., partial or complete dentures, wax-ups and bite blocks, are prepared employing the relator assembly and process of the invention. The process involves forming the maxillary denture materials from a rough maxillary cast of the patient's mouth that has a base and an expression of the maxillary alveolar ridge including the anterior palatine papilla and hamular notches. In the process, the cast is suspended over a horizontally extending, flat occlusal base member at a predetermined height corresponding to the proposed incisal length of the denture materials with members of substantially equal height, located on the occlusal table, that contact the cast at the palatine papilla and hamular notches. The base of the suspended rough cast is luted to a maxillary base member that is located over and substantially parallel to the occlusal base member to form a cast whose base is parallel to the hamular-incise plane. Thereafter denture elements, individual artificial teeth or bite-block elements are arranged on the occlusal base member in a predetermined location relative to the cast luted to the maxillary base member and corresponding to the proposed labial drape of the patient. The aforesaid denture elements, individual teeth or bite-block elements are then luted to the alveolar ridge of the cast mounted on the maxillary base member.
