Abstract:
A modulator device for converting digital data into modulation of an optical signal includes an electronic input for receiving an input data word of N bits and an electrically controllable modulator for modulating the intensity of an optical signal, the modulator including M actuating electrodes where M≧N. An electrode actuating device, most preferably a digital-to-digital convertor, operates actuating electrodes so that at least one electrode is actuated as a function of values of more than one bit of the input data word. According to an alternative, or supplementary, aspect of the invention, the set of electrodes includes at least one electrode having an effective area which is not interrelated to others of the set by factors of two. In one preferred implementation, a Mach-Zehnder modulator also provides phase modulation to give QAM functionality. Another implementation employs a semiconductor laser.

Abstract:
A method for determining values of a set of one or more geometric parameters of a patient's heart, the method comprising: a) making impedance measurements of the patient's chest, at least some of the measurements using internal electrodes; and b) finding values of the set of parameters that provide a good fit to results of the impedance measurements.
Abstract:
An isolated peptide comprising a Huntingtin (Htt) amino acid sequence being no longer than 15 amino acids, wherein said Htt amino acid sequence comprises the sequence X1X2X3X4 X5, wherein X1 is a hydrophobic amino acid or threonine, X2 is a hydrophobic amino acid, X3 is a hydrophobic amino acid, X4 is an acidic amino acid and X5 is selected from the group consisting of glycine, serine and alanine, the peptide capable of specifically inhibiting the activity of caspase 6.
Abstract:
A method of processing an image is disclosed. The method comprises obtaining an image decomposed into a set of scaled images, each being characterized by a different image-scale; and calculating, for each of at least some scaled images, a relative luminance between the scaled image and another scaled image of the set, using intensities in the scaled image and intensities in the another scaled image. The method further comprises processing each scaled image using an adaptation procedure featuring an image-specific effective saturation function of the relative luminance, thereby providing a processed scaled image; combining at least some of the processed scaled images to provide a combined image; and outputting the combined image to a computer readable medium.

Compositions of matter comprising decellularized omentum are disclosed. The compositions may be scaffolds, hydrogels or hydrogel precursor compositions. Methods of generating the compositions are disclosed as well as uses thereof.
Abstract:
Apparatus for detection of human falls comprises: an acceleration detector, for detecting vibration events, typically placed on a floor, a microphone, located in association with the acceleration detector for detection of corresponding sound events, and a classification unit to classify concurrent events from the microphone and the acceleration detector, thereby to determine whether a human fall is indicated. If the event appears to be a human fall, then an alarm is raised.
