Abstract: One variation of a method for detecting a fire includes: during a first time period: detecting an increase in ambient light intensity and detecting an increase in ambient humidity; responsive to the increase in ambient light intensity and the increase in ambient humidity, detecting a fire event; during a second time period: correlating a decrease in ambient light intensity with an increase in visual obscuration; detecting an increase in ambient air temperature; in response to a magnitude of the increase in visual obscuration remaining below a high obscuration threshold and a magnitude of the increase in ambient temperature remaining below a high temperature threshold, classifying the fire as an incipient fire; and, in response to the magnitude of the increase in visual obscuration exceeding the high obscuration threshold and the magnitude of the increase in ambient temperature exceeding the high temperature threshold, classifying the fire as a developed fire.

Abstract: The disclosure is related to adaptive transcoding of video streams from a camera. A camera system includes a camera and a base station connected to each other in a first communication network, which can be a wireless network. When a user requests to view a video from the camera, the base station obtains a video stream from the camera, transcodes the video stream, based on one or more input parameters, to generate a transcoded video stream, and transmits the transcoded video stream to a user device. The base station can transcode the video stream locally, e.g., within the base station, or in a cloud network based on transcoding location factors. Further, the camera system can also determine whether to stream the video to the user directly from the base station or from the cloud network based on streaming location factors.

Abstract: A warning system for alerting a nearby person to the presence of fire or carbon monoxide includes a housing that has an air intake that extends into an interior of the housing to allow ambient air into the housing. A processor is mounted in the housing. An alerting assembly is mounted on the housing and emits an alert that is to be detected by a person. The alerting assembly is electrically coupled to the processor and emits the alert when the processor sends an alert signal to the alerting assembly. A sensor is mounted in the housing and is in fluid communication with the air intake. The sensor tests the ambient air for an alert agent and sends a detection signal to the processor when the sensor detects the alert agent wherein the processor sends the alerting assembly the alert. A power supply is electrically coupled to the processor.

Abstract: A multi-sensory sensor comprises at least a first and a second sensor element, wherein the multi-sensory sensor is adapted for attachment to a movable structure in a building. The multi-sensory sensor is operatively associated with a controller that is configured to receive input from said first sensor element, wherein the input is indicative of a movement of the movable structure. The controller is further configured to receive input from the second sensor element, and indirectly identify a human behavioural action in the building based on a combination of the input from the first sensor element and the input from the second sensor element. It is further configured to determine a function to be taken based on the identified action, and cause the function to be taken to be executed. In one embodiment the first sensor is a movement sensor element for sensing a movement and the second sensor element is an audio sensor element for sensing audio.

Abstract: A web server based system for 24/7 managed care services to clients with Alzheimer, Autism, and assisted living is provided in the invention. The system uses intelligent digital camera with built in AI algorithms to monitor client's activities, uses voice recognition, and two way voice communication and thus requires no body wearing devices. The camera detects client's movements—such as sitting, lying, and falls—and generates appropriate alarms to a central server for a client assistance operator to act. The smarts in the camera can analyze client's vicinity to pre stored scenes, client's emotion and generate alerts to the client assistant operator. The system uses an intelligent digital client assistant device with built in smarts for speaker independent voice recognition to provide client access to entertainment, e-commerce, and other voice activated services. The system in the invention uses a drone to monitor remotely movement of the client in case it leaves premises without informing a caregiver. The drone pilot monitors the movement and informs local authority to assist the client. The web server allows all managed care services needed to provide a good quality of life to the clients while monitoring their well-being and safety and relieves burden on the caregiver. The system in the invention allows clients remote virtual office visit to a physician, and monitors client's vehicle movement if client drives away from home. The system can also be used in other security related applications.

Abstract: Systems and methods for communicating in a network using share signals in accordance with various embodiments of the present disclosure are provided. In one embodiment, a method for sharing video footage captured by audio/video (A/V) recording and communication devices is provided, the method comprising: receiving from a first client device a share signal including first image data including a person of interest; receiving from a second A/V recording and communication device second image data; transmitting to a second client device, the first image data and a request to check the second image data; receiving from the second client device a locate person command signal; searching the second image data for a match of the person of interest; and when a match of the person of interest is found, generating and transmitting an alert signal that includes a notification that the person of interest was matched in the second image data.

Abstract: A security monitoring system includes at least one sensor configured to sense an event condition. A security monitoring system controller communicates with the sensor and an indicator of alarm and trouble conditions. The central security system also detects barometric pressure within a monitored area. The security system controller is configured to receive an event signal indicative of an event from the at least one of the sensors and receive an indication of the barometric pressure from a barometer. When the barometric pressure from the barometer indicates a change in barometric pressure, the security monitoring system controller confirms that the event is present and outputs an indication signal to the indicator based on the confirmed event. When the barometric pressure from the barometer does not indicate a change in barometric pressure, the security monitoring system controller suppresses the output of the indication signal.

Abstract: Provided is a safety scanner capable of obtaining uniform optical performance for a view angle of 180° or more.
