摘要: An energy recovery and storage apparatus especially well adapted for use with flight control surfaces on airborne mobile platforms, such as aircraft. In one form the apparatus includes a ram-like element coupled to a portion of a flight control surface. An accumulator holds a flexible container having a compressible medium contained within the flexible container. The accumulator is in fluid communication with a housing of the ram-like element. When the flight control surface is moved from a deployed to a retracted position, the energy acting on the surface is recovered and stored in the compressible medium as the ram-like element forces fluid from its housing into the accumulator. When the flight control surface is to be deployed again in a subsequent cycle, the stored energy in the compressible medium is used to urge the ram-like element into an extended position, thus assisting in deploying the flight control surface. The various preferred embodiments all enable lower power, smaller and less expensive actuators to be used to control a flight control surface.

摘要: A method for use in a system for diagnosing the causes of manufacturing defects involves process characterization. A set of forms is identified for a workpiece and for a piece of manufacturing equipment that acts upon the workpiece. The forms for the workpiece are preferably a hierarchic set of geometric forms. Each such geometric form corresponds to an aspect of the action of the manufacturing equipment upon the workpiece. A plurality of measurements is made on a defective workpiece following the hierarchical order of forms. The measurements are compared to a reference datum, and a deviation from the datum is computed. If the deviation exceeds a preselected threshold, an alert condition results, attributable to the action of the manufacturing equipment. Targeted adjustment corresponding to the action that caused the defect can then be made to the equipment.

摘要: A riser monitoring assembly is provided to monitor and manage a riser extending between subsea well equipment and a floating vessel. A riser measurement instrument module is connected adjacent a selected portion of the riser provides dynamic orientation data for the selected portion of the riser. A computer having a memory associated therewith and riser system analyzing management software stored thereon is in communication with the riser measurement module to process data received therefrom. The riser monitoring assembly can utilize real-time orientation data for the selected portion of the riser to analyze the riser dynamic behavior, to determine a model of the real-time structure of the riser, to determine and manage the existence of vortex induced vibration, to determine and manage riser stress levels, to manage riser inspection and riser maintenance, and to supplement determination and management of the position of the vessel.

摘要: The present invention is a method of preventing reuse of test strips for measuring an analyte or indicator such as glucose in a physiological fluid such as blood, interstitial fluid, or urine. The present invention also relates to a method of preventing reuse of test strips incorporating an integrated lance such as a needle, blade, or other sharp or skin puncturing device. Certain types of medical devices such as, for example, glucose test strips were intended to be tested only once and then disposed. This requirement is often needed because the reagent chemistry in many test strips is not suitable for measuring glucose a second time. However, it is possible that some user will accidentally test a previously used test strip. This could potentially become a problem if the glucose meter attempts to make a glucose measurement and outputs a result. Therefore, it is desirable that a single use test strip and meter have a prescribed method for preventing a previously tested test strip from being reused.
