Abstract: An example apparatus for encoding video frames includes a receiver to receive events from a dynamic vision sensor and a video frame from an image sensor. The apparatus also includes a heat map generator to generate a heat map based on the received events. The apparatus further includes a region of interest (ROI) map generator generate a ROI map based on the heat map. The apparatus includes a parameter adjuster to adjust an encoding parameter based on the ROI map. The apparatus also further includes a video encoder to encode the video frame using the adjusted parameter.

Abstract: Techniques related to encoding image content for transmission and display via a remote device with improved latency and efficiency are discussed. Such techniques may include skipping one or more of frame capture, encode, packetization, and transmission for a frame based on a skip indicator. One or more selective updates may be captured for the skipped frame and integrated into an encode of a subsequent non-skipped frame, which may be packetized and transmitted for to the remote device for presentment to a user.

Abstract: Techniques related to adaptive bitrate streaming for wireless video are discussed. Such techniques may include determining candidate bitrates for encoding segments of a source video. A minimum of the candidate bitrates may be selected and a segment of the source video may be encoded based on the selected encoding bitrate. The encoded bitstream may be transmitted wirelessly from a transmitting device to a receiving device, which may decode the bitstream and present the decoded video to a user.

Abstract: Techniques for image rendering are described herein. The techniques may include providing image data to an encoder for transmission to a display. An indication of whether at least a portion of the image data is video data or non-video data is provided. A first policy may be implemented for image data that is video data. The first policy prioritizes transmission of the image data over encoding image quality. A second policy may be implemented for image data that is non-video data. The second policy prioritizes encoded image quality over transmission of the encoded images.

Abstract: A wireless communication device includes a processor configured to select an offload processing task for performance by an edge computing device; cause a baseband modem to establish a direct wireless connection between the wireless communication device and the edge computing device; cause the baseband modem to send first data to the edge computing device via the direct wireless connection; and receive second data from the edge computing device, wherein the second data comprise a result of the offload processing task performed on the first data. The edge computing device includes a processor configured to receive, from a user device, offloaded data to be processed according to an offload processing task; execute the offload processing task on the offloaded data; and cause the radio via the interface to wirelessly send a result of the executed offload processing task via a direct wireless connection with the user device.

Abstract: In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises a communication interface and a processor. The communication interface is to communicate with a plurality of devices. The processor is to: receive compressed data from a first device, wherein the compressed data is associated with visual data captured by sensor(s); perform a current stage of processing on the compressed data using a current CNN, wherein the current stage of processing corresponds to one of a plurality of processing stages associated with the visual data, and wherein the current CNN corresponds to one of a plurality of CNNs associated with the plurality of processing stages; obtain an output associated with the current stage of processing; determine, based on the output, whether processing associated with the visual data is complete; if the processing is complete, output a result associated with the visual data; if the processing is incomplete, transmit the compressed data to a second device.

Abstract: Various embodiments are generally directed to techniques for evaluating video quality of compressed versions of a motion video to select compressed frames of that motion video without access to an uncompressed version. A device to transmit motion video includes a device scoring component to select a set of coefficients from a vector correlating temporal complexity values to sets of coefficients based on a temporal complexity of a first compressed frame of a first compressed video data, the vector derived from opinion scores associated with at least one viewing characteristic of a viewing device; and a selection component to select either the first compressed frame or a second compressed frame of a second compressed data to transmit to the viewing device based on a metric of video quality derived from the selected set of coefficients, the first and second compressed data representing a motion video.
