摘要: In response to receiving information regarding an unsafe condition from portable electrical energy storage device (e.g., battery) safety sensors, a locking mechanism controller determines whether the battery is in a desired state to, as a safety measure, have the compartment that holds the battery locked and/or to send a signal to reduce or eliminate current draw from the battery. If the locking mechanism controller determines the battery is in the desired state to have the compartment locked, then it sends a signal to a compartment locking mechanism causing the compartment locking mechanism to lock the compartment in which the battery is located to prevent a user from opening the compartment, and thus helps protect the user against the unsafe condition. In some embodiments, the unsafe condition may be a potential or existing catastrophic failure of the battery in the compartment (e.g., a meltdown, explosion or dangerous leak, etc.).

摘要: Electrical distribution systems, equipment and wiring devices are required to have their wiring connections properly identified to ensure proper operation of connected loads as well as the safety of users, however, errors in installation do occur. Electrical wiring errors are commonly called miswire conditions. The current invention is an integrated system and method of miswire protection and annunciation of system conditions for Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters (AFCIs) and other wiring devices, electrical systems and equipment. Electrical code and regulatory standards require certain wiring devices to include miswire protection with their standard features. These wiring devices, among others include Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters (AFCIs) and Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCIs) which are required to incorporate protection from miswire conditions with other electrical faults they are designed to protect circuits from, such as and including arc, ground, overload, short circuit, and surge.

摘要: A system and method for monitoring and managing three-phase power flows in electrical transmission and distribution networks through the use of a deterministic, non-iterative method using an holomorphic embedding and algebraic approximants for determining the power flows in the three phases of a power generating system having an electrical grid. Such method is capable of determining whether or not a physical solution to the load flow problem exists, or if the system is in a state of voltage collapse. It may be employed in either real-time or off-line analytic applications for balanced or unbalanced electric power systems, in particular for monitoring and analyzing unbalanced conditions in three-phase electrical networks and for the accurate calculation of short-circuit conditions.

摘要: A system/method for providing an optically triggered circuit breaker is provided. The system comprises a junction field-effect transistor (JFET) and gate drive coupled to the JFET's gate. The gate drive applies voltage bias (VG) to the gate and the gate drive is configured to bias VG so that the system allows current flow through the JFET in the Drain to Source or Source to Drain directions, or so that the system blocks voltages applied to the Drain and/or Source. The system also comprises a photodetector which detects light emitted by the JFET resulting from a fault condition. The photodetector transmits a signal to the gate drive to provide the selectively biased VG so that the system blocks voltages applied to the Drain and/or Source, in response to the light detection. A system/method for providing an optically triggered bidirectional circuit breaker comprising common source JFETs and two photodetectors is alternatively provided.
