摘要: A signal amplifying circuit and associated methods and apparatuses, the circuit comprising: a signal path extending from an input terminal to an output terminal, a gain controller arranged to control the gain applied along the signal path in response to a control signal; an output stage within the signal path for generating the output signal, the output stage having a gain that is substantially independent of its supply voltage, and a variable voltage power supply comprising a charge pump for providing positive and negative output voltages, the charge pump comprising a network of switches that is operable in a number of different states and a controller for operating the switches in a sequence of the states so as to generate positive and negative output voltages together spanning a voltage approximately equal to the input voltage.

摘要: A power management device providing a power amplifier with power supply voltage is provided. The power management unit includes a parallel-hybrid amplitude modulator apparatus having a linear part configured to track frequency components of an input signal above a determined threshold frequency and a switching part arranged in parallel with the linear part and configured to track frequency components of the input signal below the determined threshold frequency. Additionally, the power management unit includes a current sensing and controlling part configured to determine the level of a direct current component at an output of the linear part and control the switching part to produce an output signal compensating for the direct current component at the output of the linear part to decrease the absolute level of the direct current at the output of the linear part.

摘要: A novel amplifier for a wireless device is disclosed. The system employing the preferred embodiment can deliver a radio signal with output power up to 500 mW for 64QAM (48 Mb/s bit rate) modulation and a radio signal up to 700 mW for 16QAM (36 Mb/s bit rate) modulation with the packet error rate below 1%. The increase of the signal from 10 to 500 mW (64QAM modulation) thus increases the base station coverage area 50 times.

摘要: A system and method for responding to a current overload condition in a power switch provides a class D topology that applies a current sink or current source to the gate of the power switch. The current sink or source decreases or increases current flowing through the power switch to regulate power switch output current in the event of an overload. A timer for current regulation can be provided to shut off the power switch if the overload condition persists. A set of differently rated switches can be used separately or together to provide a range of current regulation response, from a wide regulation range with a fast response, to a narrow regulation range with a slow response. The system provides a rapid response to an overload condition and output current regulation without disabling the power switch to overcome short term overloads.

摘要: An audio output driver includes an audio amplifier for generating an amplified signal. A virtual ground generator generates a virtual ground signal in response to a virtual ground reference. A combiner produces an output signal, based on the amplified signal and the virtual ground signal, that is coupled to an audio output device. A voltage equalizer equalizes the virtual ground reference and the output signal when the supply voltage compares unfavorably to a supply voltage threshold.

摘要: Techniques for providing multiple power supplies in electronic devices are disclosed. According to one aspect of the present invention, an appropriate power supply is provided only to accommodate a volume setting. In other words, there are at least two power supplies, one with a low voltage and the other with a high voltage. The high voltage power supply is only applied when there is a need to accommodate a volume setting. Thus the power consumption of the amplifiers is well controlled. As a result, the designs of the device and heat dissipation therein can be simplified and lowered in cost.
