    Abstract: A resilient wheel has a rim (4) with an airtight annular channel (18) separated from the tire air space (19) by an annular elastomeric member (16). The sealed annular channel (18) is in pressure communication with the tire air space (19) and acts as a buffer absorbing abrupt transient pressure changes produced in the tire air chamber (19).The elastomeric member (16) is seated in depressions (5) in the rim surface stabilizing the beads (6) of the tire mounted on the rim (4).     Abstract: Bead protectors fittable to an opposed pair of tire bead portions are made of a thermoplastic resin. Each bead protector comprises a tubular portion fittable in the bead portion and a flange portion extending from the tubular portion via a curved portion and fittable to the outer side surface of the bead portion. The bead protector is integrally molded in an L-shaped radial cross section. Each of fastening bands comprises a stretchable portion and hooked plate-like metal members. When fitted to the tire bead portions, the bead protectors are interconnected by the fastening bands and elastically pulled toward each other axially of the tire by the stretchable portions, with the hooks in engagement with projections on the flange portions.

    Abstract: A safety wheel including a combined flat protector and bead stopper structure radially fitted in the tire around the inner periphery thereof and having a closed frame-like cross-sectional configuration of a substantial modulus of section. The flat protector, being made itself of an elastic material in a substantially H-shaped cross section, is easily deformable and can be readily inserted in the tire and, once combined with the bead stopper, which clamps the opposite side wall portions of the flat protector and the respective bead portions of the tire against the rim flanges, exhibits a substantial rigidity enough to support the vehicle weight, as when the tire is punctured. The rigidity of the flat protector per se is also increased by means of reinforcing cords of unstretchable material embedded therein. Formed on the outer periphery of the opposite side walls of the flat protector are a pair of laterally aligned straight puncture-sensing regions which extend in parallel to a tangent thereto, lying radially outside of the bottom of the annular recess in the outer periphery of the flat protector of H-shaped cross section. The straight puncture-sensing regions, allowing the vehicle body to descend each time such regions are positioned directly opposite to the road surface during travel of the vehicle with the tire punctured, serve to produce a puncture alarm signal in the form of shocks transmitted to the vehicle body, which warns the driver of the need for prompt tire replacement immediately upon tire puncture.

The tire cover includes a reinforcing structure for preventing the tire from collapsing when it is at least partially deflated, which reinforcing structure comprises a bias-ply carcass and a reinforcement layer. The reinforcement layer has both ends terminating adjacent and in spaced relation to the bead cores within the bead portions and is made of a plurality of juxtaposed textile cords. The reinforcing structure may have a pair of side reinforcing layers embedded in the tire cover adjacent the respective side walls.
