    摘要: The invention provides a method and system for operating a solar farm inverter as a Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) device—a STATCOM—for voltage control. The solar farm inverter can provide voltage regulation, damping enhancement, stability improvement and other benefits provided by FACTS devices. In one embodiment, the solar farm operating as a STATCOM at night is employed to increase the connectivity of neighboring wind farms that produce peak power at night due to high winds, but are unable to connect due to voltage regulation issues. The present invention can also operate during the day because there remains inverter capacity after real power export by the solar farm. Additional auxiliary controllers are incorporated in the solar farm inverter to enhance damping and stability, and provide other benefits provided by FACTS devices.

    摘要: A Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) power switching circuit and a method for operating a CMOS power switching circuit are described. In one embodiment, a CMOS power switching circuit includes a voltage selection circuit configured to output the highest output voltage between an output voltage of a primary power supply and an output voltage of a backup power supply and a control circuit configured to connect a load circuit to either the primary power supply or the backup power supply by comparing the output voltage of the primary power supply with a power supply switchover level that is set as a function of the highest output voltage. The backup power supply serves as a voltage reference to set the power supply switchover level only when the output voltage of the primary power supply is lower than the output voltage of the backup power supply. Other embodiments are also described.

    摘要: A power supply unit for use with thermostats or other like devices requiring power. A power supply unit may be designed to keep electromagnetic interference emissions at a minimum, particularly at a level that does not violate governmental regulations. A unit may be designed so that there is enough power for a triggering a switch at about a cross over point of a waveform of input power to the unit. Power for triggering may come from a storage source rather than line power to reduce emissions on the power line. Power for the storage source may be provided with power stealing. Power stealing may require switching transistors which can generate emissions. Gate signals to the transistors may be especially shaped to keep emissions from transistor switching at a minimum.

In an example, an electronic circuit can be configured to receive information about the battery supply (e.g., an internal battery), such as the battery supply voltage (VBAT), and to determine if the battery supply is valid or invalid using the received information (e.g., comparing the VBAT to a threshold). If VBAT is valid, the electronic device can default to receiving power from the battery supply. If VBAT is invalid, the electronic device can receive power from another power supply, such as an external supply.

    摘要: A power supply system driving a load including a main power apparatus and a backup power apparatus is disclosed. The main power apparatus provides main power to the load according to city power. The backup power apparatus provides backup power to the load when the city power does not correspond to a first pre-determined condition and includes a recombination unit, a fuel cell unit, a transformation unit, and a control unit. The recombination unit recombines a methanol component to a hydrogen component. The fuel cell unit receives the hydrogen component to generate a first power. The transformation unit detects the city power and transforms the first power to generate the backup power. When the city power does not correspond to a first pre-determined condition, the control unit activates the reformer, the fuel cell unit, and the transformation unit to generate the backup power.

    摘要: Disclosed is an uninterruptable power supply comprising a switchable input power converter having an input operable to receive a supply power network voltage, the power network voltage being subject to fluctuations which may give rise to a disturbance to any load connected to the power network; and a voltage regulation circuit for controlling the switchable input power converter, thereby regulating its output. The voltage regulation circuit senses the power network voltage; and causes the uninterruptable power supply to generate from the sensed power network voltage a compensatory reactive current indicative of the voltage fluctuations on the power network voltage. The compensatory reactive current is used to compensate for the voltage fluctuations on the power network voltage.

Moreover, the device doesn't need a bulk capacitor used for auxiliary switching and doesn't need to be used together with a radiator.
