A method and apparatus for improving power generation in a thermal power plant. A dynamic reactive compensation system is provided and is connected to a high voltage bus or a generator bus of the power plant. The dynamic reactive compensation system comprises power electronic devices and is operable to provide most of the reactive power that is required from the power plant.

An apparatus for dispensing a disposable glove and applying it to the hand of a user in which a stream of air drawn into an enclosed glove applying chamber through a constricted opening aligned with the heel of the glove inflates the topmost glove in a stack of gloves in the chamber so that a user can readily insert his hand into the glove. After the user has donned the glove on the hand, a wall of the chamber is opened to permit the user to readily withdraw his hand from the glove applying chamber while the air flow which originally inflated the topmost glove is disrupted. Upon closures of the chamber wall, the re- established air flow automatically inflates the next lower glove in the glove stack to prepare the next glove for receipt of another hand.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed toward a terminal marker used to identify a terminal block. The terminal marker includes a front having a print surface, a back, sides, and flexible legs. The flexible legs can be positioned in a natural state for installation in the terminal block or a compressed state for obtaining a marking from a printer. In the natural state, the flexible legs extend at an angle with respect to the print surface of the terminal marker. In the compressed state, the flexible legs extend outward beyond of the sides of the terminal marker.

An endoscope with a stereoscopic optical channel is held and positioned by a robotic surgical system. A first capture unit captures: a visible first color component of a visible left image combined with a fluorescence left image from first light from one channel in the endoscope; a visible second color component of the visible left image from the first light; and a visible third color component of the visible left image from the first light. A second capture unit captures: a visible first color component of a visible right image combined with a fluorescence right image from second light from the other channel in the endoscope; a visible second color component of the visible right image from the second light; and a visible third color component of the visible right image from the second light. An augmented stereoscopic outputs a real-time stereoscopic image including a three-dimensional presentation including the visible left and right images and the fluorescence left and right images.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to identifying physiological parameters from raw data received wirelessly from a sensor. The invention allows a user to track the physiological parameters using any of a number of common portable devices, such as a smart phone. In this manner, the user is not required to own, wear, or carry a specialized device for receiving and processing raw data received from the sensors.
Abstract:
A medical device detachment system receives an elongate delivery member, having a lumen, and an elongate core member. The system includes a housing, a user input mechanism for receiving a user input to effect detachment of a medical device, such as an embolic coil, from a distal end of the delivery member, and a grasping mechanism for grasping and moving a proximal end of the core member relative to a proximal end of the delivery member. The system also includes a first sensor detecting positioning of the proximal end of the core member within the housing, and a second sensor, detecting movement of the grasping mechanism. An indicator is connected to the first and second proximity sensors and provides feedback to a user.

Abstract:
Systems and methods for characterizing spatial distortions in location data determined by an imaging system, for example as employed in imaged guided therapy. A three dimensional phantom is custom formed for a desired imaging space of a given imaging system. The phantom includes a large plurality of control points fixed rigidly in space to a high degree of known accuracy. The phantom is fixed to a stereotactic frame defining a known calibrated reference or zero and imaged. An algorithm customized for the phantom determines the spatial locations of the control points. A comparison is made between the known and the determined spatial locations for at least a subset of the control points. The comparison results in indicia for any determined spatial distortions observed. The raw image data can be manipulated to compensate for any spatial distortion. The control points can have fixed locations known to an accuracy of 100.mu. or better. The algorithm can determine an initial estimate for the detected location of a control point accurate to .+−.0.5 pixel or better.

A system and method that notifies the receipt of a voicemail message at an IP telephone using one or more of instant messaging and short message service. A preferred embodiment of the invention provides an IP telephone that prepares a notification regarding the receipt of a voicemail message. In one embodiment, the IP telephone queries the availability of an instant messaging client via an instant messaging presence server, and forwards the notification to the instant messaging presence server if the instant messaging client is available. In another embodiment, the IP telephone sends the notification to a short message service client via a short message service gateway. In still another embodiment, the IP telephone sends the notification to both instant messaging client and short message service clients.

A method for harvesting algae according to embodiments of the present invention includes filling a reservoir at least partially with a liquid, submerging a bag at least partially in the liquid, the bag containing media, the media comprising algae, the bag comprising a first end, a second end, a harvesting port located closer to the first end than to the second end, and a gas port, delivering gas into the bag through the gas port, and raising the second end of the bag by accumulating the gas at the second end to flow the media toward the harvesting port.
