Adhesion between the electrode and collector elements is enhanced by pretreatment of the collector elements in which a 0.25% to 3.0% solution of a polymeric material compatible with said matrix polymer is applied to a collector foil or grid and dried to form a coated film, and the resulting coated collector element is heated within the range of about 250.degree. to 450.degree. C. for about 5 to 60 seconds.

Copper vanadium bronzes suitable for use in positive intercalation electrodes in lithium secondary batteries are prepared by partial oxidative removal of copper ions from .beta.- and .epsilon.-Cu.sub.y V.sub.2 O.sub.5 bronzes. A preferred one of the resulting electrode materials is capable of intercalating up to about 1.4 Li per vanadium to yield a theoretical energy density of about 1200 Wh/Kg.

The present arrangement provides compounds (I) AaMm(YO4)yZz(I) that are obtained from precursors of the constituent elements by a method having steps that can include dispersion of the precursors in a liquid support having one or more ionic liquids made up of a cation and an anion the electric charges of which balance out to give a suspension of the precursors in the liquid. The suspension is heated to a temperature of 25 to 380° C. and the ionic liquid and the inorganic oxide of formula (I) are separated from the reaction of the precursors.

The invention relates to a method for preparing an alkali metal and transition metal fluorosulfate that is useful as an electrode material in an electrochemical battery that operates by alkali ion exchange. The method includes a first step that involves: preparing a mixture of precursors of elements making up fluorosulfate, placing said mixture in contact with a solid polymer at ambient temperature, subjecting the reaction medium to a heat treatment that aims to melt the polymer, and subsequently reacting the precursors with one another. Said polymer is one that is solid at ambient temperature, has a melting point lower than the reaction temperature of the precursors, is stable at least up to the reaction temperature of the precursors, and is soluble in a nonpolar aprotic organic solvent.
