Abstract:
NOVEL VULCANIZABLE AMORPHOUS TERPOLYMERS ARE DISCLOSED WHICH COMPRISE TWO ALPHA-OLEFINS AND A POLYENE CONTAINING AN ALKYLIDENE GROUP CONJUGATED WITH A DOUBLE BOND OF A RING WHICH IS A MEMBER OF AN ENDOCYCLIC SYSTEM. THE PROCESS FOR PREPARING THESE TERPOLYMERS IS ALSO DISCLOSED.
Abstract:
A PROCESS FOR PRODUCING AN ORGANOMETALLIC TETRADENTATE COMPLEX OF COBALT BY REACTING AN ORGANOMETALLIC TETRADENTATE COMPLEX OF COBALT OF THE FORMULA:
-X1-CO(-R)(-X2(-))(-X3(-))-X4-
WHEREIN X1, X2, X3 AND X4, WHICH FORM THE TETRADENTATE COMPLEX, MAY BE THE SAME OR DIFFERENT AND EACH REPRESENTS A NITROGEN, OXYGEN, SULPHUR OR PHOSPHORUS ATOM; AND R IS AN ALKYL, ARYL, ALKARYL OR CYCLOALKYL RADICAL WITH CARBON MONOXIDE OR NITROGEN MONOXIDE AND WITH A MOBILE HYDROGEN COMPOUND REPRESENTED BY THE FORMULA R''H, SAID R'' BEING AN OXYALKYL, OXYARYL, OXYCYCLOALKYL AMINO, HYDROXY OR MERCAPTAN RADICAL, IN THE PRESENCE OF VISIBLE OR ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION DISCLOSED. THE RESULTING PRODUCTS ARE ALSO DISCLOSED AND CLAIMED. THEY FIND PARTICULAR UTILITY AS CATALYSTS IN VARIOUS ORGANIC REACTIONS SUCH AS OXIDATIONS, OXO-REACTIONS AND NITROSATIONS.
Abstract:
A PROCESS FOR RECOVERING BOTH MECHANICAL ENERGY AND THERMAL ENERGY FROM THE EXHAUST GASES OF AN ETHYLENE OXIDE SYNTHESIS REACTOR. THE EXHAUST GASES ARE PASSED IN HEAT EXCHANGE RELATIONSHIP WITH BOILER FLUE GASES WHICH ARE USED TO DRIVE A GAS TURBINE WHICH IS COUPLED TO THE DRIVE SHAFT OF AN AIR COMPRESSOR. THE EXHAUST GASES DISCHARGING FROM THE TURBINE ARE THEN BURNED IN THE STEAM BOILER. STEAM GENERATED IN THE BOILER IS USED TO DRIVE A STREAM TURBINE WHICH IS ALSO COUPLED TO THE DRIVE SHAFT OF THE AIR COMPRESSOR.
Abstract:
A new series of compounds, represented by the formula: Cu, Mnx Mey Crz Ow, wherein Cu copper, Mn manganese, Me nickel or cobalt, Cr chromium, O oxygen; x is a number from 1 to 2, inclusive, and zero when Me is Ni and y and z are not zero; y is a number from 1 to 6, inclusive, and zero when x and z are not zero; z is a number up to 3, and zero when Me is Co and x and y are not zero; w is the index of oxygen which satisfies the valencies of the metals, having regard for their indices in the formula, that are useful as catalysts in the oxidation to CO2 and H2O of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons contained in the exhaust gases of internal combustion engines, the preparation and the pretreatment thereof are disclosed.
Abstract:
A novel process is disclosed for the preparation of an ethylene polymer foam which is based on the use of a polycyclic polyene modified ethylene polymer, a sulfur based vulcanizing system and a foaming agent.
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for the polymerization of isobutylene and, in particular, the copolymerization of isobutylene and isoprene, by contacting the monomers with a catalyst system constituted by (a) an organoaluminum compound (e.g., Al(C2H5)2Cl) and (b) an oxide or anhydride of an element belonging to Group VI B or VII B of the periodic system (e.g., SO2), in a liquid reaction medium, wherein the molar ratio of compound (b) to compound (a) is less than 1, at a temperature in the range of about -40* to +15*C.
Abstract:
A multi-stage method is disclosed whereby isoprene of high purity is recovered from mixtures of C5 hydrocarbons containing it, wherein the mixture is subjected to a first extractive distillation stage in the presence of a solvent, such as morpholine and N-formyl-morpholine, containing water and in which olefinic and saturated hydrocarbons are withdrawn as a top product; a second extractive distillation stage effects the withdrawal of the major part of the cyclopentadiene and acetylene compounds present in the bottom product of the first stage as a sidestream and said solvent constitutes a bottom product for recycling to said first and second stage; in a third extractive distillation stage the top product of the second stage is treated with solvent containing water, fed to the third stage from a stripper and then recycled as bottom product to said stripper; and, in a rectification stage, isoprene of desired purity is recovered from the overhead product of the third extractive distillation stage.
