    摘要: A circuit board includes a first and second ground layer and a plurality of signal vias extending between the ground layers but not electrical contact therewith. Ground vias coupled to the first and second ground layers can be positioned adjacent signal vias and can include ground traces that extend between adjacent ground vias. Air holes can be positioned between signal vias and/or adjacent signal vias to modify the electrical performance of the circuit board. Ground wings can be used to help tune common-mode and/or differential-mode impedances.

    摘要: A connector includes a housing with a set of broad-side coupled terminals configured to engage a pair of signal traces on a first panel and a second panel and transfer signals between the signal traces on the first and second panels. The connector may be slid onto the edges and then fastened to one or both of the panels with a locking feature. Multiple signal pairs may be included in the connector and may be electrically separated. The design of the connector helps facilitate high-speed data communication per signal pair with a return loss performance that does not exceed at predetermined level. Certain configurations of the connector may be used for co-planar configurations. Certain configurations of the connector may couple together panels of different thicknesses.

    摘要: A circuit board design is disclosed that is useful in high-speed differential signal applications uses either a via arrangement or a circuit trace exit structure. A pair of differential signal vias in a circuit board are surrounded by an opening that is formed within a ground plane disposed on another layer of the circuit board. The vias are connected to traces on the circuit board by way of an exit structure that includes two flag portions and associated angled portions that connect the flag portions to circuit board traces. In an alternate embodiment, the circuit board traces that leave the differential signal vias are disposed in one layer of the circuit board above a wide ground strip disposed on another layer of the circuit board.

    摘要: An engineered transmission line for transmitting high-frequency data signals between two points of connection includes a dielectric body and a plurality of conductive elements disposed thereon, with the plurality of conductive elements being arranged in pairs for differential signal transmission. In one embodiment, the dielectric body is solid and has its conductive elements supported on its exterior surface. In another embodiment, the dielectric body is extruded and has grooves or raised lands formed therein. The grooves or lands support conductive elements formed thereon by a suitable plating process. A ground plane may be provided as a base layer of the dielectric body. Enlarged conductive surfaces may also be provided on the body which have a greater surface area than those intended for use with the signal channels. The enlarged surfaces are utilized to carry power.

    摘要: A method and structure of an electrical connector is provided for tuning the impedance of the connector according to a given impedance of an electrical circuit in which the connector is interconnected. The connector includes a dielectric housing having a receptacle for receiving a complementary electrical component. A plurality of terminals are mounted on the housing. The terminals include body portions located in the housing and contact portions for engaging respective contacts on the electrical component. The body portions include mechanically non-functional sections of a given area which effect a given capacitance. The mechanically non-functional sections are selectively trimmable to selectively vary the area thereof and thereby vary the capacitance of the terminals and, therefore, the impedance of the connector to match the given impedance of the electrical circuit. The connector includes a plurality of signal terminals and a plurality of ground terminals. The signal terminals and ground terminals are in an alternating array lengthwise along the receptacle, with each signal terminal being aligned with a ground terminals on opposite transverse sides of the receptacle, and the ground terminals have significantly larger transverse areas than the signal terminals. The ground terminals have at least two points of contact for engaging a common ground circuit on the printed circuit board for reducing the inductance between a particular ground terminal and its respective circuit trace.

    摘要: A method and structure of an electrical connector is provided for tuning the impedance of the connector according to a given impedance of an electrical circuit in which the connector is interconnected. The connector includes a dielectric housing having a receptacle for receiving a complementary mating connector. A plurality of terminals are mounted on the housing. The terminals include body portions located in the housing and contact portions located at the receptacle for engaging appropriate terminals of the mating connector when inserted into the receptacle. The areas of the body portions of the terminals are selectively varied to vary the capacitance of the terminals and, therefore, the impedance of the connector to match the given impedance of the electrical circuit. When the connector is used for mounting to a printed circuit board, ground terminals have at least two feet for engaging a respective single ground trace of a common ground circuit on the printed circuit board for reducing the inductance between a particular ground terminal and its respective circuit trace.
