    摘要: A tire is provided having a circumferential tread of a diene-based rubber composition reinforced with a silica-containing carbon black which contains domains of silica on its surface prepared by extended reactive mixing of said silica-containing carbon black with a coupling agent together with at least one elastomer. Said silica-containing carbon black is a carbon black which contains silica domains on its surface and said silica contains hydroxyl groups (e.g. silanol groups) on its surface, wherein said silica domains cover at least 50 percent of the carbon black surface. Said coupling agent is a bis(3-triethoxysilylpropyl) polysulfide having an average of from 2 to 4, alternately a more limited average of from 2 to 3 or from 2 to 2.6, connecting sulfur atoms in its polysulfidic bridge. In one aspect of the invention, it is preferred that said coupling agent is exclusive of a bis(3-trialkoxysilylalkyl) polysulfide having an average of greater than 3.5 sulfur atoms in its polysulfidic bridge.

    摘要: This invention relates to preparation and use of a pelletized composite comprised of a dispersion of fluffy (low apparent density) carbon black aggregates in a conjugated diene-based elastomer binder therefor instead of a non-elastomeric polymeric binder. Such composite is prepared by blending non-pelletized, fluffy rubber reinforcing carbon black aggregates with an aqueous dispersion or organic solvent solution of at least one conjugated diene-based elastomer, drying the mixture to form a composite thereof and pelletizing the composite. The resultant pelletized composite desirably contains a relatively high carbon black concentration, desirably is free-flowing, and thereby in a form of a deliverable particulate carbon black for blending with at least one other elastomer, and suitable rubber compounding ingredients, to form a rubber composition which may be used to form various carbon black reinforced rubber products as components of articles of manufacture. Such article of manufacture may be, for example, a tire. Such article may also be an industrial product such as, for example, a hose or belt such as a conveyor belt or power transmission belt.

The rubber compound has improved (lower) electrical resistivity compared to homogeneous silica-filled rubber compounds. The process comprises(a) intimately dispersing from 30 to 60 phr of a silica filler and 5 to 80 phr of a carbon black in a first rubber to form a first nonproductive compound;(b) intimately dispersing curatives in said first nonproductive compound to form a first productive compound;(c) separately intimately dispersing from 20 to 100 phr of a silica filler in a second rubber, which is different from said first rubber, to form a second nonproductive compound; and(d) intimately dispersing curatives in said second nonproductive compound to form a second productive compound; and(e) mixing said first productive compound with said second productive compound to form a heterogeneous silica/carbon black-filled rubber compound.
