摘要: This invention pertains to a water-insolubilized resin of a polymer of at least one monomer selected from N-alkyl- or N-alkylene-substituted acrylamides or methacrylamides represented by the following general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 mean individually a hydrogen atom or methyl group and R.sub.3 denotes a methyl, ethyl or propyl group, with the proviso that R.sub.3 is an ethyl or propyl group when R.sub.2 stands for a hydrogen atom, and that R.sub.3 is a methyl or ethyl group when R.sub.2 stands for a methyl group, or wherein R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 form --CH.sub.2).sub.4 or --CH.sub.2).sub.2 O--CH.sub.2).sub.2 in combination; or a copolymer of at least one monomer selected from the acrylamides or methacrylamides and another copolymerizable monomer. The resin has water-absorbing capacity which varies in degree depending on temperature and, when heated, undergoes shrinkage even in the presence of a large excess of water to release once-absorbed water. Because of this property, it may be used as a water-separating agent to remove water from a water-containing system. Since the resin can exhibit a sort of molecular sieve action, it can selectively control the concentration of a macromolecular material without affecting the concentration of a low molecular weight compound such as a buffer agent. The resin is useful particularly in concentrating an aqueous solution or emulsion containing a material susceptible to thermal denaturation, such as an edible substance, amino acid, protein, polysaccharide or, enzyme which is difficult to concentrate by the evaporation technique, and also in controlling the concentration of an aqueous solution while adjusting the degree of water-absorbing capacity of the resin by varying its temperature.

摘要: A dazzle-free reflection mirror, which may be used as an inner mirror or an outer mirror of a vehicle, has an electro-optical element of which transparency is changed by applying an electric field thereto in order to effectuate a dazzle-free operation. The dazzle-free reflection mirror comprises a dazzle-free portion to effectuate the dazzle-free operation at a lower part of the mirror surface and a non-dazzle-free portion not to effectuate the dazzle-free operation at the rest part of the mirror surface. The dazzle-free portion shields light from following-vehicle headlights at night so that the driver feels no glaring. The non-dazzle-free portion clearly images a rear view so that the driver can see an appearance of the following vehicle.

摘要: Disclosed herein is a urine absorbing and holding material, which comprises a homopolymer of at least one monomer selected from specific N-alkyl- or N-alkylene-substituted acrylamides and methacrylamides, a copolymer of two or more of the acrylamides and methacrylamides, a copolymer of said at least one monomer with one or more monomers other the the acrylamides and methacrylamides and copolymerizable therewith, and being a water-insolubilized product. By combining the urine absorbing and holding material in the form of powder, granules, flakes, fibers or a film with a fibrous material in the form of a woven fabric, non-woven fabric or a flocculent material, a useful urea absorbing and holding composite material is obtained in the form of a pad, diaper or drawers.

摘要: A control apparatus for a reflection mirror of a vehicle is disclosed. The control apparatus is provided with a rear light sensor, an exterior light sensor and a circuit for driving the reflection mirror into a dazzle-free condition when it is detected by the sensors that an intensive rear light is incident from the rear of the vehicle and the exterior of the vehicle is dark. The control apparatus is further provided with a delay circuit which delays driving the reflection mirror into the dazzle-free condition for a predetermined interval of time after the exterior light sensor detects that the exterior of the vehicle is dark. The exterior light sensor may be a switching circuit which switches on and off front light bulbs of the vehicle. The control apparatus is still further provided with a delay circuit which keeps the dazzle-free condition for a predetermined interval of time even after the rear light sensor detects that the rear of the vehicle is dark.

摘要: System and method for controlling a continuously variable transmission having a pair of variable-diameter pulleys disposed on input and output shafts, and a corresponding pair of hydraulic cylinders to change effective diameters of the pulleys. A speed ratio control valve assembly is used to control flows of a fluid to and from one of the cylinders. The control valve assembly is selectively placed in one of three states consisting of a first state for feeding the fluid to the one cylinder, a second state for discharging the fluid from the one cylinder, and a third state for restricting the flow to or from the one cylinder. The first and third states are alternately established while a ratio of an operating time in the first state to that in the third state is changed, for controlling a rate of flow of the fluid into the one cylinder, and the second and third states are alternately established while a ratio of operating time in the second state to that in the third state is changed, for controlling a rate of flow of the fluid from the one cylinder, whereby the speed ratio of the transmission is continuously varied by the one cylinder under control of the speed-ratio control valve assembly.
