    摘要: The invention provides a method for effectively removing the cause of a thermal asperity (TA) phenomenon occurring at an MR head incorporated in a disk storage system. If a read error occurs in data read by the MR head, a CPU executes a usual read retry operation. If the read error is not removed by the usual read retry operation, the CPU presumes that the read error is caused by the thermal asperity phenomenon occurring at the MR head. Then, the CPU controls the MR head to move to a CSS zone on the disk, thereby executing a TA removal operation so as to remove a fine particle such as dust attached to the MR head. In the TA removal operation, the rotational speed of the disk is reduced so that the MR head can be brought into contact with the disk in the CSS zone.

    摘要: A magnetic recording/reproduction apparatus includes a first floppy disk drive (FDD) of a preerase head type, which includes a first read/write (R/W) section, and a second FDD of a tunnel erase head type, which includes a second R/W section. A selection signal generating section selectively outputs first and second selection signals generated in accordance with a write command for said first and second FDD. A mode signal supplying section outputs a mode signal generated in accordance with the write command to a write gate (WG) signal generating section. A sync signal generating section generates a sync signal from a read data (RD) signal from the first or second R/W section and sends it to the R/W signal generating section. In response to the sync signal, the WG signal generating section generates a first WG signal for the first FDD and a second WG signal for the second FDD and selectively outputs one of the first and second WG signals to the first and second FDDs in accordance with the mode signal received from the mode signal supplying section. In accordance with the received WG signal and the first and second selection signals, the first and second FDDs record data corresponding to an incoming write data (WD) signal on a disk, read out the recorded data from the disk and generate first and second RD signals corresponding to the read recorded data as the RD signal.

    摘要: A data reproduction apparatus is disclosed. Read data, which is a pulse signal, is output from a magnetic disk drive in accordance with the information read by a pre-erase type magnetic head. Based on the read data, a zero pattern detector detects sync data which is constituted by zero data of a predetermined number of bits. A flip-flop outputs a predetermined permit signal using an output signal of the zero pattern detector as a trigger pulse. When the permit signal is output, a PLL circuit locks on the read data to oscillate and output data pulses and window pulses. Upon reception of the data pulses and window pulses. a floppy disk controller reads out data recorded on the magnetic recording medium. From the read data, an erased area detector detects an erased area that is an area, which has been erased by an erase head of the magnetic head and in which no information is written by a read/write head. When the erased area detector detects the erased area, an inhibition circuit inhibits the flip-flop from outputting the permit signal in order to prevent the PLL circuit from locking on the read data reproduced from the erased area.
