摘要: This invention relates to polyurethane foams capable of being welded by high frequency welding and a process for producing the same, characterized by the addition of certain ammonium salts of acids containing phosphorus to the starting components for the polyurethane foam in order that the polyurethane starting materials and the polyurethanes contain from 0.1 to 10%, by weight, of ammonium salts of phosphorus-containing acids. Phosphorus-containing ammonium salts which are available in the liquid form and completely soluble in polyols are particularly suitable with salts of phosphoric acid mono- and dibutyl esters, dialkyl phosphinic acids, alkyl phosphonic acids and alkyl phosphonic acid monomethyl esters being preferred. The addition of these acids significantly increases the dielectric loss factor of thermoplastic polyurethane foams and, therefore, also considerably increases their capacity for being welded by high frequency welding.

摘要: A deflaker for use in defibering coarse paper making stock includes a rotor and stator having frusto-conical working faces, each of which has therein one or more circumferential rows of angularly spaced pockets separated by axially extending land areas and with a circumferential land between adjacent rows of pockets, the proportions and arrangement of the parts being such that the stock is forced to travel back and forth between rotor and stator pockets as it passes through the working zone. The inlet chamber in which the rotor and stator operate is of substantially larger diameter to provide outlying space to which high specific gravity contaminant materials are directed by the centrifugal force generated by the rotor, and this action is enhanced by a cover plate on the inlet end of the rotor which has the dual function of defining with the adjacent end wall of the stator an entry slot to the working zone, and of developing additional centrifugal force further tending to prevent high specific gravity contaminant materials from reaching this inlet slot. The working faces of the rotor and stator are axially symmetrical so that the rotor can be driven in either direction to double the working life of these elements, and when it is necessary to remove and replace any of the working elements, this can be done without disturbing any piping connections by simply removing a cover plate which forms one wall of the inlet chamber.

摘要: A method and apparatus for treating a suspension of liquid, paper making fibers and undesirable rejects to remove a substantial portion of the rejects from the suspension. A cylindrical screen is utilized which has narrow slots on the order of 0.001 to 0.008 inch in width disposed normally with respect to the screen axis, and bars projecting from the inlet face of the screen and cooperating with rotating foils for creating a field of high intensity, fine scale turbulence adjacent the inlet face of the screen. This permits the paper making fibers to pass through the narrow screen openings but causes very small reject particles, which would pass through the larger openings of conventional paper making screens, to be removed without fractionation of the paper making stock or appreciable variation in the consistencies of the feed, accepts and rejects.

摘要: Compositions which, as well as water, contain certain sulfonate salts or polyhydric alcohols together with ethoxylated/propoxylated alcohols and ethoxylated alcohols and also poly(meth)acrylic acid, polymaleic acid or partially hydrolyzed polymaleic anhydride are useful for pretreating textile sheet materials. Further ingredients also render them useful for hydrogen peroxide bleaching. The compositions, which provide the textiles with good primary wettability and good rewettability, are low-foaming. Batchwise pretreatment processes, for example in jet machines, therefore represent no problem.

摘要: Improved apparatus for dewatering or washing a suspension of paper pulp in which first and second rolls are rotatably mounted with an endless loop of wire tensioned around the rolls, and in which a headbox delivers a pulp suspension to be thickened or washed and positioned with an outlet to discharge the pulp suspension into or onto the wire as it approaches the first roll, and in which the washed or dewatered pulp is collected after it has passed between the wire and a second roll, in which the first roll has a central shaft, and screw flighting on the shaft formed in left and right-hand sections are terminated at cylindrical discs mounted at opposite ends of the shaft, and in which the screw flighting has a depth which is substantially greater than the maximum thickness of the pulp layer and in which the aggregate open area between the screw flights is substantially greater than the cross-sectional area of the headbox outlet to assure that the spaces between the flights can be no more than partially filled with a pulp suspension during operation.

摘要: In a flat bed, Fourdrinier-type, countercurrent washer for pulp, the opportunities for the development of foam are minimized by "wet" operation of the washer so that the pulp mat remains essentially full of liquid as it passes from each washing zone to the next. Special provision is also made for compensating for drainage at too slow a rate in one washing zone by bypassing some of the flow of washing liquid to that zone so that it is delivered to the zone upstream therefrom. An additional feature is the provision of controls over the flow of drained liquid from one or more of the receptacles therefor so that any solid particles floating on the top of that liquid in the receptacle are delivered to the countercurrent flow which ultimately reaches the evaporator.

摘要: A screening cylinder for use in screening apparatus for paper making stock includes a reinforcing skeleton structure comprising multiple bars extending generally axially of the inside of the cylinder which are welded to relatively heavy reinforcing hoops located at both ends of the cylinder and at a plurality of uniformly spaced locations along the length of the cylinder. Between each adjacent pair of these hoops is a plurality of circular rings of metal rod material arranged in closely spaced relation with each other and with the hoops to define a corresponding plurality of circumferentially extending screening slots. This screening cylinder is specifically designed for use in screening apparatus characterized by a rotor comprising bars or vanes of air foil section moving in closely spaced but non-contacting relation with the radially inner surfaces of the axially extending bars for the purpose of creating alternating positive and negative pressure waves effective to prevent plugging of the slots in the screening cylinder.

摘要: Apparatus for screening a suspension of liquid, paper making fibers and undesirable rejects to remove a substantial portion of the rejects therefrom comprise a cylindrical screening member provided with circumferentially extending screening slots in the range of from greater than 0.008 inch to approximately 0.030 inch in width, and bars projecting from the inlet face of the screen and cooperating with rotating foils for creating a field of high intensity, fine scale turbulence adjacent the inlet face of the screen. The paper making fibers and other particles of elongated thin shapes can pass through the screening slots, but relatively chunky reject particles, which would pass through the larger openings of conventional paper making screens, are rejected without fractionation of the paper making stock or appreciable variation in the consistencies of the feed, accepts and reject flows. The apparatus has special utility in a two-stage screening system when installed immediately ahead of the headbox of a paper machine, and also as the primary screen in a waste paper stock preparation system.
