Abstract:
Vibration welded joint structures, methods, and apparatus for thermoplastic members are disclosed. A welded joint structure includes first and second thermoplastic members and an interposed junction piece vibratory welded to the first and second members at respective welding surfaces. At least one of the welding surfaces partially defines an angle, in a plane normal to the interposed junction piece, between an unwelded portion of the first member and an unwelded portion of the second member. The junction piece may include surfaces for forming vibratory welded bonds with the first and second thermoplastic members and a component holder, physically coupled to those surfaces, for enabling the junction piece to hold a further component.

Abstract:
Techniques for producing optical medium that can be read at substantially high speeds with greater stability and accuracy are disclosed. According to one aspect of the techniques, a bonding station is employed with what is referred to as a bubble-free bonding technique that may or may not be incorporated with an index bonding technique. The index bonding is provided to ensure that non-flatness of substrates is compensated when two substrates are bonded together so as to minimize possible dynamic imbalance of a disc. The bubble-free bonding technique is provided to generate an alternating electromagnetic field that eliminates bubbles from a type of glue used to bond two substrates, wherein a high voltage source is used to generate the alternating electromagnetic field of a predefine magnitude.
Abstract:
The application discloses a belt formed of first and second portions of thermoplastic sheet including, respectively, first and second pluralities of tabs spaced apart so as to define first and second pluralities of openings along corresponding first and second edges of the first and second portions of thermoplastic sheet, wherein the first plurality of tabs are joined to the second plurality of tabs so as to join the first edge to the second edge.
Abstract:
The present invention is a polymeric panel system and method for production and use thereof, enabling the rapid construction of a building foundation wall or other structure and in particular a below-grade foundation. The polymeric foundation system includes polymeric wall panels and other components suitable for withstanding lateral and end compression loads. The walls include two parallel faces separated by a series of webs or ribs, where the webs and faces of the wall panels may be formed of a similar polymer material such as polyvinylchloride (PVC). The wall panels and/or other components may be extruded so as to enable the rapid production of sections of wall panels, where the panels may be cut to length and then affixed to adjacent panels to form a foundation wall. The method of affixing adjacent panels may include welding, gluing or other techniques and may be performed on the job site or in a pre-fabrication facility. Furthermore, the wall panels may be co-extruded with an insulating material inserted in the voids between the parallel faces so as to provide improved thermal performance of the foundation as well.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for joining structural members to form preforms and structural assemblies are provided. The structural members are positioned so that joining surfaces thereof define an angled aperture, such a slot or frustoconical bore, that receives a corresponding joining member. The joining member is urged into the aperture against the joining surfaces and moved, for example, by oscillating or rotating the joining member, to friction weld the joining member to the structural members. Each structural member can include a clamping portion that is received by a clamping device that prevents the aperture from opening as the joining member is urged into the aperture. A gripping portion of the joining member and the clamping portions of the structural members can be trimmed from the resulting preform to form a finished structural assembly.
Abstract:
An object is to provide a gas container and a method of producing the gas container in which liner constituting members can appropriately be joined to each other and productivity can be improved. A gas container has a resin liner constituted by joining a plurality of liner constituting members, the liner constituting members each having at least a hollow cylindrical part, and a reinforcement layer arranged on an outer periphery of the resin liner. Joining portions of the liner constituting members are joined to each other over a circumferential direction by laser welding, and the joining portions are made of a laser transmitting resin and a laser absorbing resin, respectively.
Abstract:
A fusion welding device include: a first holder, having a first face, and adapted to hold at least an outer peripheral face of an end portion of a first work in a state where the first work is movable in a longitudinal direction thereof; a second holder, having a second face opposed to the first face, and adapted to hold at least an outer peripheral face of an end portion of a second work in a state where the second work is movable in a longitudinal direction thereof; a heater, operable to heat the first and second works; a first and second movers, adapted to move the first and second holders in such directions that the first and second faces come close to or apart from each other; and a third mover, adapted to move the first and second holders in synchronization with each other in a direction along the first and second faces. The first and second holders are moved by the third mover in a state where the first and second faces are in contact with each other, whereby end faces of the end portions of the first and second works are pressed to each other in the longitudinal directions thereof in the first and second holders.
Abstract:
In ultrasonic welding of a seam, such as for creation of an imaging belt, an ultrasonic welding horn is applied to an overlap area. The welding horn has a contact surface within a certain set of dimensions comparable to the overlap area. The welding horn defines a conical main body that tapers to the dimensions of the contact area through a short length.
