摘要: Disclosed are methods for building colloidal solids by precipitation from a liquid bridge using a needle through which a colloidal particle suspension is dispensed onto a substrate in a temperature-controlled environment. The substrate can rest on a motion-controlled stage, and freeform shapes can be built by coordinating the motion of the stage with the rate of dispense of colloidal particle suspension. Aspects include a scaling law that governs the rate of assembly and a direct-write colloidal assembly process that combines self-assembly with direct-write 3D printing, and can be used to build exemplary freestanding structures using a diverse materials, such as polystyrene, silica and gold particles. Additionally, disclosed are methods for predicting and eliminating cracking by a geometric relationship between particle size and structure dimensions, enabling the production of macroscale, crack-free colloidal crystals.

摘要: The present invention relates to novel compositions comprising an organic semiconductor (OSC) and one or more organic solvents. The composition is solid at a temperature of 25° C. and fluid at a higher temperature and the boiling point of the solvent is at most 400° C. Furthermore, the present invention describes the use of these compositions as inks for the preparation of organic electronic (OE) devices, especially organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells and OLED devices, to methods for preparing OE devices using the novel compositions, and to OE devices, OLED devices and OPV cells prepared from such methods and compositions.

摘要: A method of attaching a dental article to the surface of a tooth includes providing the dental article and applying a coating including upconversion phosphors to a surface of the dental article. The method also includes applying a dental cement composition to the surface of the tooth and placing the dental article on the surface of the tooth such that the coating is adjacent the dental cement composition. The dental cement composition includes a polymerizable resin and a photoinitiator and is substantially free of upconversion phosphors. The method further includes irradiating the coating with a radiation source that emits radiation at a pre-determined fixed wavelength that causes the upconversion phosphors to emit radiation at an activation wavelength of the dental cement composition photoinitiator such that the dental cement composition cures in a region adjacent the coating and removing remaining uncured dental cement composition outside the dental article from the tooth.

摘要: Luminescent compositions are provided having improved color intensity and articles incorporating said luminescent compositions as security taggants, for example as anti-counterfeiting components in pharmaceutical packaging applications, or as aesthetic colorants that are generally usable in any application where luminescent coloration is desired. The luminescent compositions incorporate a particulate fluoropolymer that is blended with one or more luminescent pigments and/or luminescent dyes. These components are provided in a liquid medium in which the fluoropolymer particles are dispersed and with which the pigment(s)/dye(s) may or may not be soluble.

摘要: The present invention provides for a composition comprising a pigment, wherein the composition is suitable for coating a surface that is, or is expected to be, exposed to the sun. The pigment comprises particles that fluoresce in sunlight, thereby remaining cooler in the sun than coatings pigmented with non-fluorescent particles. The particles comprise solids that fluoresce or glow in the visible or near infrared (NIR) spectra, or that fluoresce when doped. Suitable dopants include, but are not limited to, ions of rare earths and transition metals.

Also, the present invention provides a simple and environmentally benign method for fabrication of characteristics and size-controlled carbon dots.

摘要: The present invention provides methods for making polymerizable monomer compositions comprising purifying a (b) monomer mixture of (i) one or more monomers having at least two polymerizable vinyl groups and (ii) one or more monomers having a single polymerizable vinyl group as part of a (meth)acrylate ester group by any one or more of treating the monomer mixture in an activated porous alumina or silica column, sieve drying the monomer mixture in a vacuum followed by drying over dried molecular sieves having average pore sizes of from 2 to 20 Angstroms, freeze-pump-thaw (FPT) treating by freezing the monomer mixture in a vessel or container to a temperature below −75° C., degassing the monomer mixture by application of vacuum in the range of 102 to 10−2 Pa, sealing the vessel or container under vacuum, and thawing the composition to room temperature; and, combining in an inert gas atmosphere the resulting monomer mixture (b) with a composition (a) of quantum dots in dry form or organic solvent solution.
