Simplified detection of the position of the locking claw is made in absolute or quasi-absolute form, by a picker position detector unit that is provided in association with a rotating drive shaft of the locking member and employs a simply-constructed mechanism capable of generating detection pulses responsive to predetermined rotational angles of two shafts rotating at different rates. Each of the plurality of predetermined points defined for the locking claw can be identified in absolute or quasi-absolute form on the basis of a combination of patterns of the thus-generated pulses. Thus, in feed transfer of a recording medium, such as a DVD medium, the position of the medium can be detected in a simplified manner and can be automatically controlled to be properly settled in the predetermined position upon power-ON.

By blending the recycled alloy powder with other powder to produce alloy powder containing at least 50 weight % of rare earth alloy powder having a magnetic permeability not higher than 2 and containing at least 65 weight % of rare earth alloy powder. By sintering the alloy powder under pressure and thereafter cutting top, bottom and side surfaces of the sintered material, a target having a magnetic permeability not higher than 2 and having a thickness not less than 8 mm is fabricated.

A head chip of a magnetic head is produced by a method in which magnetic core half blocks, each having plural track width delimiting grooves on its major surface and having a magnetic metal film of a soft magnetic metal material formed on the major surface, are abutted to each other with a gap material in-between to form a magnetic head block which is then sliced to give plural head chips for the magnetic head. Each track width delimiting groove is polygonally-shaped in cross-section and has at least two bends. This enables suppression of cracks of exfoliation of the magnetic metal film otherwise caused in the magnetic core during its fabrication to improve product yield and operational reliability.

Novel regenerated cellulose fiber dyeable with disperse dye is disclosed. In this regenerated cellulose fiber, 10 to 40 weight % of polyester fine particles or styrene-acrylic polymer fine particles having an average particle size of 0.05 to 5 .mu.m are compounded. Products wherein the regenerated cellulose fiber and polyester fiber are used in combination can give dyed products excellent in homochromatic properties, and since both fibers can be dyed at the same time, the dyeing efficiency is remarkably improved.
