Abstract:
A reinforcing structure designed for handling compression stress states when the structure is molded into a composite. The structure, specifically a wrapped cord with metallic filaments contained therein, is suitable for both compression and tension load forces. The reinforcing structure has a core comprising a plurality of essentially straight, nested filaments arranged in parallel, the filaments forming a line of contact with adjacent filaments that extends along the length of the filaments. Wrapped about the core is at least one helically wound wire.

Abstract:
A steel cord having a three-layer twisted construction consisting of an innermost layer, an intermediate layer, an outermost layer, and a spiral warp and being capable of achieving an improvement in the adhesion force to rubber while reducing the number of processing steps used. In the steel cord, the innermost layer consists of 3 filaments twisted in one of left or right twist directions while having a twist pitch length of 5 to 18 mm; the intermediate layer consists of 8 filaments twisted in the same twist direction as that of the innermost layer while having a twist pitch length of 5 to 18 mm, namely, the same twist pitch length as that of the innermost layer; the outermost layer consists of 13 filaments twisted in a left or right twist direction opposite to those of the innermost and intermediate layers while having a twist pitch length of 10 to 25 mm equal to or more than those of the innermost and intermediate layers; and the spiral wrap consists of a single filament adapted to be wrapped around the outermost layer, thereby preventing the steel cord from being unwound, the filament being twisted in a twisted direction opposite to that of the outermost layer while having a twist pitch length of 3 to 10 mm. Gaps are formed among the filaments of the intermediate and outermost layers. The gaps allow rubber to penetrate easily into the steel cord therethrough.
Abstract:
Process for producing a steel cord for pneumatic tires comprising a bunch of wires, the core of which consists of wire filaments 10 arranged bunched juxtaposed in parallel. Preferably at least three wire filaments 10, 20 are provided, at least two wire filaments located juxtaposed in parallel being spirally shaped as core filaments 10 forming a core 60 and at least one wire filament spirally surrounding the two core filaments 10 as a sheathing wire 20. Spirally shaping the wire filaments 10 is achieved in accordance with the invention by false twisters 40. Due to this spiral shaping of the wire filaments 10 migration of the filaments from the core composite is avoided more particularly. The residual torsional stresses of the core filaments among each other and in conjunction with the restoring forces of the sheathing wire are advantageously cancelled. In addition, the steel cord features to advantage a flattened, more particularly, oval shape.
Abstract:
The steel wire is made using a carbon steel wire rod material containing 0.70 to 0.75 wt % carbon and has the characteristics that its diameter is 0.10 to 0.40 mm and Y.gtoreq.-1960d+3580 Y: tensile strength (N/mm.sup.2), d: diameter (mm)!. Furthermore, the torque decrease factor of the steel wire is less than 7% in a torsion-torque curve in a torsion-torque test wherein forward twisting and then reverse twisting are applied. A preferred steel cord has two steel wires bundled together substantially in parallel and one steel wire is wound around this bundle. This steel cord is made from steel wires having the diameter, tensile strength and toughness characteristics set forth above, and also the ratio B/A of the strength B of the twisted steel cord to the aggregate strength A of the steel wires before they are twisted together into the steel cord is 0.935 or over.
Abstract:
A tire cord and a tire, wherein the tire cord comprises three inner steel monofilaments (FC) having a smaller diameter (dc) and seven outer steel monofilaments (FB) having a larger diameter (db), both the diameters (dc) and (db) being in the range of 0.15 to 0.28 mm, the inner and outer steel monofilaments being twisted in the same direction but at different pitches, and an average gap of at least 0.03 mm is provided between the adjacent outer steel monofilaments. The tire is provided with the cords as reinforcements, e.g. carcass cords, belt cords and the like.
