The present invention provides a method and apparatus for efficiently cooling a motor. Three components may be used to provide forced air through a motor and a motor bearing. An air guide plate may direct air in and out of a motor and move air through a bearing seal, a shaft, and the motor. The air guide plate also may shield the bearing from heat. A series of holes, with every other hole an inlet hole or an outlet hole, within the motor housing may be arranged in a common radial plane. The incoming air does not mix with the outgoing air. A series of fins on a rotor may move air in and out of the holes within the motor housing.

When an open-malfunction occurs, the coolant temperature becomes different considerably from that in the normal time in the temperature range in which the thermostat is to be normally closed. When a closure-malfunction occurs, the coolant temperature becomes different considerably from that during the normal time in the temperature range in which the thermostat is to be normally opened. The intake system (19) includes a filter housing (5) having an air filter (6) for purifying the combustion air (2). The clean space (8) of the air filter (6) is fluidly connected to an outlet opening (10) of the filter housing (5). The outlet opening (10) communicates with a carburetor (7) of the engine (3). A centrifugal-force separator (13) is mounted forward of the air filter (6) for separating large amounts of dust in the inducted combustion air (2). The separator (13) is so positioned ahead of the filter housing (5) that a central core flow (14) of the separator has a lower particle density (15) and is supplied to the filter (6). A tangential flow (16) surrounds the central core flow (14) in the interior of the separator (13). The fan drive arrangement includes a variable pitch sheave assembly which moves between a first high speed position and a second low speed position. Variable pitch sheave assembly is interconnected by first and second drive belts to first and second drive pulleys operatively connected to the crankshaft of the engine and by first and second fan belts to corresponding fan pulleys connected to a fan shaft of a fan. Variable pitch sheave assembly includes first and second drive belt receiving grooves for receiving corresponding drive belts therein and first and second fan belt grooves for receiving corresponding fan belts therein. The depths of the fan belt grooves and the drive belt grooves of the variable pitch sheave assembly are varied in response to the temperature of the engine coolant flowing through the radiator so as to vary the fan speed accordingly.

A temperature sensing device for an internal-combustion engine includes a carrier structure, a first sensor element accommodated on the carrier structure, a second sensor element also accommodated on the carrier structure, an engine air guiding device for feeding an engine intake air flow to the first sensor element, and a radiator air guiding device for feeding a radiator air flow passed through an engine radiator to the second sensor element. By way of a compact constructional unit, which can be preassembled, it is possible to centrally sense the temperatures of the two air flows. The obtained measuring signals can be coupled into a cable tree system provided on the vehicle side while the cabling expenditures are reduced.
