摘要: A less expensive power cord with a safety device detects the damage of the power lines in a cord at an earlier stage, shuts off the power, and guarantees the safety of an electric appliance and its environment. The power cord has two power lines and a detection line provided between them, and the sheath portion between the detection line and the power line is thinner than the insulating sheath material of the cord contact portion. When the power line becomes half-broken and damaged by the fatigue with the passage of time due to bendings and pulls, the broken ends of the thin lines of the power line are untwisted and contact the thin sheath portion of the detection line, a current flows through the detection line, a current difference occurs in the power line, the power shutdown device detects the difference, releases a latch, and opens a constant close interlocking switch, thereby shutting off the power.

摘要: An electrical safety device comprises a sensor strip disposed in the insulation of an electrical power cord or other electrical apparatus. The sensor strip is made of a conductive polymer with a positive temperature coefficient of resistivity which increases with temperature. The sensor strip forms a series connected loop connected to an impedance measuring circuit. A relay interrupts current to the conductors of the cord when the impedance of the sensor strip increases due to an overtemperature condition. The sensor strip is positioned between the conductors of the cord and the outside surface of the cord. The position of the sensor strip allows the strip to act as a mechanical damage sensor, opening the series connected loop before an energized conductor is exposed.

摘要: A flexible, electric heating pad having a self-limiting heating element is provided. The heating element includes a pair of relatively spaced conductors surrounded by a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) material. A layer of electrically insulating material surrounds the PTC material. The PTC material includes a polyolefin resin having a relatively low flexural modulus. The heating element is disposed in a generally serpentine configuration within passages formed in the covering material of the heating pad. The passages are formed by joining together layers of covering material using ultrasonic welding or other suitable ways. The temperature of the heating element is controlled using controller circuit which utilizes a solid state timed interval control circuit. A safety circuit is provided for non-resettably disconnecting electrical power from the heating element if short or open circuit conditions occur therein. A temperature indicator and a variable automatic shutoff circuit are also provided with the controller circuit. A method of making the heating pad is also provided.

摘要: An electrical heating apparatus protected against an overheating condition and a temperature sensitive electrical sensor for the use therewith are disclosed. The electrical heating apparatus includes an electrical heater for generating heat in proportion to the amount of electricity flowing through it, and it provides essentially all the heat for the apparatus. An electrical sensor is disposed in a thermally responsive relationship to the electrical heater. The electrical sensor includes a coextruded pair of spaced flexible plastic conductors and a coextruded flexible temperature sensitive electrical impedance material having predetermined temperature coefficient impedance characteristics along its entire length. The temperature sensitive material is in electrical contact with the flexible conductors and controls the flow of electricity between them. A control means associated with the electrical heater and the electrical sensor is responsive to a signal from the electrical sensor to control the electrical current flowing through the heater.

摘要: A heating circuit for an electric blanket or the like comprises a heating conductor, a sensor conductor and separating means which separates the conductors and has an impedance that falls with increasing temperature and/or which will melt in the event of overheating to allow contact between the conductors. A thermal fuse and a first diode are connected in series with the heating conductor between AC supply input terminals, and a resistor is thermally coupled to the thermal fuse and electrically connected such that the resistor and the impedance of the separating means are connected in series between the input terminals. A drop in the impedance of the separating means due to overheating will cause the current through the resistor to increase, so heating the resistor to cause the thermal fuse to disconnect the circuit from the supply. The resistor is connected in series with the heating conductor and the first diode and a second diode bypasses the resistor during those half-cycles of the AC supply voltage during which the first diode conducts.
