Abstract: An actuator or sensor device comprises an electroactive polymer (EAP) arrangement which extends between fixed opposite ends. The electroactive polymer arrangement comprises a passive carrier layer and an active electroactive polymer layer, wherein at or adjacent the ends, the passive carrier layer and the active EAP layer are mounted with one over the other in a first order, and at a middle area between the ends, the carrier layer and the active EAP layer are mounted in an opposite order. This enables internal stresses and moments within the electroactive polymer arrangement to be used more effectively to contribute to displacement or actuation force.

A component for manufacturing such a structural component, a method for manufacturing a component of this type, a method for manufacturing a structural component and an aircraft or spacecraft with such a structural component are described.

Abstract: A footwear sole structure having a fluid-filled chamber including a tensile member is provided. The fluid-filled chamber includes a first barrier sheet, a second barrier sheet and the tensile member. The first barrier sheet is formed from a first thermoplastic material. The second barrier sheet is attached to the first barrier sheet and is formed from a second thermoplastic material. The first barrier sheet and the second barrier sheet cooperate to define an internal cavity. The tensile member is disposed within the internal cavity and is formed from a third thermoplastic material. A first weld attaches the first barrier sheet, the second barrier sheet, and the tensile member together by melding the first thermoplastic material of the first barrier sheet, the second thermoplastic material of second barrier sheet, and the third thermoplastic material of the tensile member.

Abstract: A method for preparing an article includes at least a first component of a polyolefin in conjunction with a second component of a polymer made by ring-opening metathesis polymerisation of norbornene type monomers. The method includes pre-treating a surface of the first component, applying a ring-opening metathesis polymerisable mixture of norbornene type monomers and a catalyst to the surface, and curing the ring-opening metathesis polymerisable mixture in contact with the surface, wherein the ring-opening metathesis polymerisable mixture has a η1000 at 30° C. of more than 9 sec. Articles such as a pipe line field joint or a protective element for a concrete tunnel lining element can be made using the method.

Abstract: A high-strength hot-dip coated hot-rolled steel sheet excellent in terms of surface appearance quality and coating adhesiveness and a method for manufacturing. The method includes performing hot rolling followed by pickling on steel to form a pickled steel sheet, the steel having a chemical composition containing, by mass %, C: 0.02% or more and 0.30% or less, Si: 0.01% or more and 1.0% or less, Mn: 0.3% or more and 2.5% or less, P: 0.08% or less, S: 0.02% or less, Al: 0.001% or more and 0.20% or less, and Fe and inevitable impurities. The method further includes performing rolling with a rolling reduction ratio of 1% or more and 10% or less, and a hot-dip coating treatment. The obtained steel sheet has an arithmetic average roughness Ra of 2.0 μm or less on the surface of the steel sheet, and a tensile strength of 590 MPa or more.
