摘要: The present invention provides methods for improving the a&esion of gels to metalcoated substrates. In particular, the present invention provides a method comprising the steps of forming a thiol or disulfide self-assembled monolayer on the metal-coated substrate prior to deposition of the gel structures. The invention further provides devices fabricated according to the methods of the invention, comprising a substrate having a surface, a noble metal layer deposited on the substrate surface, a self-assembled monolayer comprised of bifunctional molecules having a thiol or disulfide end and a polymerizable end formed on the noble metal layer, and a plurality of gel pads a&Bred to the self-assembled monolayer. The devices of the invention are advantageously used for performing assays using optical and/or electrochemical detection methods.

摘要: A visual blood glucose test strip has two membranes that each incorporate a reagent that reacts with glucose in a blood sample applied to the membranes to cause a color change. One of the membranes also includes an inhibitor and a dye. A blood sample applied to the strip causes the two membranes to form two different colors. Comparing the colors to a calibrated color chart permits a user to determine the glucose concentration in the blood sample.

摘要: A test device and method for determining the presence or absence of an analyte in a fluid sample, the test device including a support bearing a mark thereon, and a matrix defining an axial flow path. In operation, an observation area in the test device becomes transparent, thereby allowing the user to view a mark that is present on a support that is disposed beneath the observation area. Typically, the mark on the underlying support is configured as a minus (null) sign. In the absence of analyte in the sample, the test device presents a negative result as a minus (null) signal. In the presence of analyte in the sample, however, the mark operates in concert with a perpendicular test line on the observation area to present a positive result as a plus (null) signal that is visible to the user.

摘要: A method and apparatus for performing a plurality of small-volume reactions simultaneously with components in a bulk-phase medium are disclosed. The apparatus includes a device having an elongate or planar channel providing a plurality of discrete small-volume reaction regions within the channel, each communicating with supply and hold reservoirs from which material can be introduced into the regions, and to which material can be transferred from the reaction regions. A reaction-specific reagent is carried on a wall portion of each reaction region, or in a reservoir associated with a reaction region, for reacting in solution with one or more components in the bulk-phase medium, to effect a selected solution-phase reaction in each region or in a region-specific reservoir associated therewith. The channel or the fluid communication between a reaction region and an associated region-specific region is dimensioned to substantially prevent convective fluid flow among the reaction regions during such reactions, thus confining the reaction in each region. The apparatus also includes structure for moving solvent or solvent components from or to a selected region-specific reservoir, to or from the associated reaction region, and a control unit for controlling such reservoir-to channel and channel-to-reservoir movement.

摘要: A device for collecting, testing and transporting a liquid specimen of urine or the like incorporates a cup or container and a cooperating lid which becomes sealed about its upper rim when the lid is mated with the specimen-containing cup. An upwardly open subchamber of defined volume, formed in the bottom wall of the cup, is sealed by engagement with a downwardly extending hollow plug portion of the lid that has a bottom wall containing a central aperture closed by a frangible sheet material seal. When initial testing is to be conducted, an elongated assay cartridge is inserted vertically downward through the hollow plug. The bottom end splits open the frangible seal and enters into the subchamber containing the defined volume of the liquid sample, which becomes totally absorbed by a pair of elongated nitrocellulose strips, along which the liquid moves by capillary action to effect the assay tests.

摘要: A thermochromic polymer-based temperature indicator composition which comprises a polythiophene and a carrier medium. The composition is characterized in that the polythiophene is present in the medium in an amount of about 0.05 to about 5.0% by weight based on the total weight of the composition. The structure of the compound is designed such that when the composition is placed in a heat-exchange relationship with an article, the composition will exhibit a color change when a design temperature or a temperature beyond the design temperature is reached in the article.
