Abstract:
Systems and methods relating to fault detection and diagnosis. Signals received from sensors are first filtered to remove noise and are then analyzed using wavelet packet transform (WPT) based PCA. The results of the PCA analysis are then automatically classified to thereby quickly and easily determine what issues there may be in a finished product or in a machine being monitored.
Abstract:
A display illumination module for the illumination of a rear-projection screen is provided in which a first array of light sources is positioned adjacent to a first face of an optical modulating array layer for modulating the transmission of light emitted by the first array light sources. The first array light sources emit light within a defined angular range, and the optical modulating array layer is positioned relative to the first array of light sources so that light from adjacent light sources does not overlap at the optical modulating array layer. A second array of light sources is positioned adjacent to a second side of the optical modulation array layer and is arranged such that light from the second array of light sources does not pass through said optical modulation array layer and said second array of light sources does not substantially block light from the first array of light sources passing through the optical modulating array layer. One or more display modules may be incorporated into a display system that includes a rear projection screen that is spatially offset from the optical modulating array layer so that light emitted from adjacent light sources in either the first or the second array of light sources overlaps on the screen.
Abstract:
Technologies are generally described for automatically optimizing an efficiency of camera placement, numbers, and resolution in multi-camera monitoring and surveillance applications. In some examples, a fraction of a total area may be monitored at a higher resolution than the rest. Employing techniques such as combinatorial state Viterbi technique or combinatorial state trellis technique, a minimum number of cameras that provide the coverage at the needed resolution may be selected. Similarly, a number of points may be covered with at least a predefined number of cameras. For example, a subject of interest may be tracked in a public area, where specific camera(s) may be used to image the subject's face at a higher resolution than the background.
Abstract:
Described are methods and compositions for treating cancer that include a dopamine receptor (DR) antagonist such as thioridazine and a chemotherapeutic agent. Optionally, the chemotherapeutic agent is a DNA synthesis inhibitor such as cytarabine or a microtubule inhibitor such as paclitaxel or docetaxel. The methods and compositions are useful for the treatment of cancers such as acute myeloid leukemia.
Abstract:
Electric generators are described herein. The electric generators include an interior machine formed of an interior rotor and an interior portion of a stator, and an exterior machine substantially concentric to the interior machine. The exterior machine includes: an exterior rotor substantially concentric to the interior rotor, and an exterior portion of the stator. Each of the interior machine and the external machine are driven by an engine to produce a respective current. The described electric generators can be used in diesel electric locomotives.
Abstract:
The present application relates to biosensors, for example comprising an high-molecular weight, tandem repeating, structure-switching nucleic acid aptamers (concatemeric aptamers) to rapidly create patterned sensors via, for example, inkjet printing. These concatemeric aptamer reporters remain immobilized at the point of printing through strong adsorption but retain sufficient segmental mobility to undergo structure switching and reporter signalling to provide both qualitative and quantitative detection of one or more analytes. In certain embodiments, inkjet printing allows for the patterning of internally referenced sensors with multiplexed detection, and provides a generic platform for on-demand printing of sensors even in remote locations.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides transformed human pluripotent stem cell (t-hPSC). t-hPSCs are not dependent on Oct4 for renewal and survival, however exhibit a sensitivity to reduced levels of the transcription factor Nanog. Also provided are methods of culturing cells for use in a cell-based screening assay comprising placing one or more transformed human pluripotent stem cells into a receptacle and culturing said stem cells in the receptacle to form a monolayer of stem cells without cell overlap. Methods of screening compounds using t-hPSCs are also described.
Abstract:
Unbonded fiber reinforced elastomeric isolators (FREIs) have desirable characteristics for seismic isolation, but the unbonded application also introduces several design limitations in comparison to bonded elastomeric isolators. Unbonded FREIs are not capable of resisting tensile forces, making this type of isolator inappropriate for situation where overturning is of concern or regions where large vertical accelerations are anticipated. Furthermore, since unbonded FREIs rely on friction to transfer horizontal forces, permanent slip could occur. Concerns over both transfer of tensile forces and permanent displacement can be obviated by partially bonding the FREI to the supports. In this way, partially bonded FREIs (PB-FREIs) retain the beneficial characteristics of an unbonded FREI, but also demonstrate characteristics of a bonded isolator, notably tensile forces can be transferred and potential permanent displacement is inhibited.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for performing foci array scanning using at least one adjustable or tilting medium is disclosed. The medium can be controllably tilted in order to translate a beam of electromagnetic radiation perpendicularly to its propagation, and upon exiting the medium, will propagate in the original, incoming direction. This allows the apparatus that emits the radiation, such as a laser, to remain stationary and still scan a 2D array. Additionally, the reflected fluorescence light undergoes the opposite shift to “reverse” the scanning shift and bring the beamlets back in line with a lenselet array. So the collection fibers can remain static and collect light from different spots on the sample from during the scan.
Abstract:
Various embodiments illustrating a multiplexed method for high throughput screening of ions in biological samples within a single capillary when using capillary electrophoresis mass spectrometry (CE-MS) are illustrated. The method includes sequential injection of multiple sample segments in series within a single capillary, the sample segments being separated by a spacer plug of buffer, and multiplexed analysis of the sample segments simultaneously within a single capillary electrophoresis (CE) run. The method also includes application of voltage to the single capillary subsequent to sequential injection and zonal separation of polar metabolites within each sample segment by CE such that each analyte zone migrates within its characteristic electrophoretic mobility offset in time by the spacer. The incorporation of a quality control/reference sample and the use of dilution patterning with specific injection configurations also enables encoding of information temporally for enhanced data processing with quality assurance.
