摘要: In an exhaust gas recirculation system for an internal combustion engine of the type including an exhaust gas recirculation passage for communicating an exhaust tube with an intake tube downstream of a throttle valve disposed therein for recirculating part of exhaust gases from the exhaust tube into the intake tube, and a control valve for controlling the flow rate of exhaust gases flowing through the recirculation passage, there are provided negative pressure control means responsive to the negative intake pressure downstream of the throttle valve in the intake tube for generating a pressure signal the magnitude of which is in proportion to the load on the internal combustion engine, and a modulator responsive to the pressure in the recirculation passage upstream of the control valve for controlling the pressure signal, whereby the pressure signal which is controlled by the modulator operates the recirculation gas flow rate control valve in such a manner that the volume of exhaust gases to be recirculated may be in proportion to the load on the engine.

摘要: A canister for use in an evaporative emission control system of an automotive vehicle is provided which includes a box-like casing, an inlet port formed in one end wall of the casing through which fuel vapors generated within a fuel tank are drawn into the canister, and a plurality of vapor-adsorbing passages each of which is filled with activated carbon and has a given length through which the fuel vapors drawn through the inlet port flow. The vapor-adsorbing passages are all arranged within said casing in parallel to each other. This arrangement allows the casing to be of a flat shape which facilitates easy installation of the canister within a flat space around a fuel tank.

摘要: A filter for an air cleaner is produced by impregnating a fiber web composed of one or more layers with a liquid binder in the form of solution, suspension, or emulsion. The impregnated fiber web is dried such that the solvent or dispersing medium on one side evaporates faster then that on the other side. As the result, more binder is deposited on one side than on the other side; in other words, a gradient of binder distribution is formed. The thus-produced filter has such a structure that the voids among fibers continuously change across the thickness, while fibers are bonded together by the binder. The filter thus produced can collect more dust than a conventional one.

The first control unit includes a first temperature detecting element and a first temperature control heater. The second control unit includes a second temperature detecting element, a second temperature control heater and a preliminary heater. The operation circuit controls the second and preliminary heaters and generates a signal indicative of flow rate. The operation circuit has a constant power consumption circuit to control heat from the preliminary heater to a constant level.

摘要: An air-to-fuel ratio control system, for properly supplying additional air through an additional air passage to the intake port of the internal combustion engine depending on a detected air-to-fuel ratio of the mixture, includes a drive unit having two main pressure chambers divided by a main diaphragm and an auxiliary pressure chamber separated by an auxiliary diaphragm from one of the main chambers. The main and auxiliary diaphragms are connected by a rod to a bypass valve mounted in the additional air passage to increase or decrease the passage area by the movement of the bypass valve. In response to an air-to-fuel ratio detection signal, the intake port vacuum (or the atmosphere) is introduced to either one of the main chamber while the other chamber is occupied with the atmosphere or the intake port vacuum thereby to produce a pressure difference between the two main chambers. Since the third pressure chamber is normally occupied with the intake port vacuum, the movement of the bypass valve is biased in a direction to decrease the passage area of the additional air thereby to eliminate the adverse effect of the variation in the intake port vacuum.

摘要: A combustion monitoring apparatus for an internal combustion engine is provided which is designed to distinguish abnormal combustion conditions from a normal combustion conditions using a combustion ion current included in a current flowing through plug electrodes of a spark plug, resulting from motion of ions between the plug electrodes which are produced by combustion. For example, if a maximum value of the combustion ion current during one combustion cycle is smaller than a given value, it is determined that a misfire has occurred. If an attenuation time from generation of the current flowing through the plug electrodes until a variation in the current is decreased to a given value is shorter than a given time period, it is determined that a flame has been blown out before combustion is completed.

摘要: An exhaust gas purifying apparatus includes a carrier of a honeycomb structure which is made of at least one flat metal plate and at least one corrugated metal plate which is superimposed on the flat metal plate. A catalytic layer is formed on the surface of the carrier. The carrier suited for being coated with the catalytic layer is disposed in an exhaust pipe of an internal combustion engine. The carrier is provided, on an axially intermediate portion thereof, with a large number of louvers which causes a haphazard secondary motion in the exhaust gas. A predetermined portion of the carrier including the turbulence producing portion and an additional region located adjacent to said predetermined region is coated with a larger amount of catalyst than that with which the remaining portion of the carrier is coated, whereby good purifying efficiency can be obtained for a long time.
