摘要: The invention relates to a method for fabricating a composite structure having heat dissipation properties greater than a bulk single crystal silicon structure having the same dimensions. The structure includes a support substrate, a top layer and an oxide layer between the support substrate and the top layer. The method includes providing a top layer made of a crystalline material, providing a support substrate of a polycrystalline material having heat dissipation properties greater than that of a bulk single crystal silicon substrate of the same dimensions; providing an oxide layer on at least one of the top layer or the support substrate; bonding the top layer and support substrate together to obtain a composite structure having the top layer, the support substrate and the oxide layer located at a bonding interface between the top layer and support substrate, and heat treating the composite structure in a non-oxidizing atmosphere at a predetermined temperature and for a predetermined duration to dissolve at least part of the oxide layer and increase the heat dissipation properties of the composite structure compared to the composite structure prior to the heat treating.

摘要: The present invention generally relates to polymers and macromolecules, in particular, to block polymers useful in particles such as nanoparticles. One aspect of the invention is directed to a method of developing nanoparticles with desired properties. In one set of embodiments, the method includes producing libraries of nanoparticles having highly controlled properties, which can be formed by mixing together two or more macromolecules in different ratios. One or more of the macromolecules may be a polymeric conjugate of a moiety to a biocompatible polymer. In some cases, the nanoparticle may contain a drug. The moiety, in some embodiments, may have a molecular weight greater than about 1000 Da; for example, the moiety may include a polypeptide or a polynucleotide, such as an aptamer. The moiety may also be a targeting moiety, an imaging moiety, a chelating moiety, a charged moiety, or a therapeutic moiety. Another aspect of the invention is directed to systems and methods of producing such polymeric conjugates. In some embodiments, a solution containing a polymer is contacted with a liquid, such as an immiscible liquid, to form nanoparticles containing the polymeric conjugate. Other aspects of the invention are directed to methods using such libraries, methods of using or administering such polymeric conjugates, methods of promoting the use of such polymeric conjugates, kits involving such polymeric conjugates, or the like.

摘要: The present invention provides compositions and methods for inhibiting adhesions. The methods involve administering solutions containing hydrogel precursors such as polysaccharide derivatives, e.g., derivatives of hyaluronic acid, cellulose, or dextran, to a subject at a site where adhesions may form, e.g., as a consequence of surgery, injury, or infection. The hydrogel precursors, e.g., polysaccharide derivatives, become crosslinked following their administration to form a hydrogel that maintains tissue separation. In certain embodiments of the invention one or both solutions contains particles, e.g., polymeric nanoparticles or microparticles, so that a composite hydrogel containing the particles is formed. The solution(s), particle(s), or both, may contain a biologically active agent such as an agent that contributes to inhibiting adhesions. The biologically active agent may be covalently attached to a hydrogel precursor.
