    摘要: An ultrasonic surgical assembly includes a disposable ultrasonic waveguide, a reusable exterior body, and a cordless ultrasonic-movement-generation assembly removably disposed in the body and operable to generate ultrasonic movement of the waveguide when connected thereto. The assembly also includes a reusable and rechargeable battery disposed in the body, a disposable handle having both a waveguide attachment dock exposed to the environment and operably connecting the waveguide thereto and an aseptically sealable assembly dock exposed to the environment and shaped to connect the waveguide in the attachment dock to the assembly through the handle when the assembly is disposed in the assembly dock. The assembly further includes a disposable compartment door that is movably connected to the handle to selectively expose the assembly dock to the environment and has an open position, permitting entry and removal of the assembly respectively into and from the assembly dock, and a closed position, aseptically sealing the assembly dock from the environment.

    摘要: A hybrid rocket motor includes a storage tank which stores an oxidizer under relatively low pressure, a turbopump preferably directly coupled to an outlet of the storage tank which pressurizes the oxidizer to a relatively high pressure, a combustion chamber including a solid fuel, and an injector between the turbopump and combustion chamber through which the oxidizer is injected into the combustion chamber. According to a preferred aspect of the invention, the turbopump is operated by an expander cycle of a heat exchanger. According to another preferred aspect of the invention, the fluid flowing through the heat exchanger is oxidizer tapped from the storage tank. A barrier is maintained between an oxidizer feed line from the turbopump and the injector until sufficient pressure is created by the turbopump to pump the oxidizer at the requisite pressure into the injector.

    摘要: The methods and devices of the invention include an encoder, an endoscopic robotic instrument, and an encoder/robotic instrument interface. A preferred embodiment of the encoder has a chest/shoulder plate provided with telescoping tubes and joints. Each joint is provided with a direct drive potentiometer to monitor movement and provide a corresponding signal. The chest plate is preferably adaptable to a large range of human-chest sizes and the telescopic segments are strapped to the arms of the practitioner at the elbows. A pistol grip is provided at the wrist end of the telescopic segments. According to the presently preferred embodiment, the encoder encodes flexion and rotation at the shoulder, elbow and wrist of each arm in addition to gripping at each hand. The encoding device is coupled to a circuit which operates a servo system. The servo system includes a series of servo motors. A series of pulleys corresponding to the number of servo motors are arranged in a housing. The robotic instrument preferably comprises two arms mounted at the distal end of a multi-lumen tube. Each arm has rotational and flexional joints corresponding to the shoulder, elbow, and wrist of the practitioner. Tendons are coupled to the pulleys of the servo motors and are fed through the multi-lumen tube to the joints of the two arms.

    摘要: A rocket according to the invention includes a motor having a fuel chamber and an oxidizer tank, a nose portion provided forward of the motor, and a nozzle surrounded by fins provided aft of the motor. The fuel chamber is provided with a relatively central solid propellant, and a hybrid fuel surrounds the solid propellant. The oxidizer tank is filled with a reactant and coupled to the forward end of the fuel chamber. A pathway is provided between the tank and the fuel chamber for the passage of reactant therethrough. At least one of a valve and a barrier is coupled in the pathway to prevent passage of the reactant into the fuel chamber until after the solid propellant is at least partially consumed. After the solid propellant is at least partially consumed, the valve is opened and/or the barrier is removed to permit the passage of reactant into the fuel chamber. The reactant exothermically reacts with the heated hybrid fuel to create a combustive reaction which creates additional and sustained thrust for the rocket. As a result, the rocket has high initial thrust and sustained thrust, enabling the rocket to maintain maximum velocity and reach a relatively higher altitude than possible with either a solid propellant system or a hybrid propellant system alone.

The cobalt base alloy scissor elements are homogeneous in composition. Each element has in its as-cast form an elongate portion having an integral cutting edge. At least one of the scissor elements also has a through-hole transverse to the elongate portion. The scissor elements are arranged as scissor cutting instruments by opposing their cutting edges, and by engaging the through-hole of each pivoting element with apparatus coupled to an actuating push-rod of the laparoscopic surgical instrument. The preferred cobalt base alloy is a cobalt base superalloy with at least 38% cobalt, and preferably 50% or more cobalt. The cobalt base alloy should be sufficiently hard to scratch stainless steel.

    摘要: A probe for use with an endoscopic suction-irrigation instrument is disclosed which permits a second probe to be inserted therethrough. The suction-irrigation instrument has a cannula, a fluid chamber having at least one port for irrigation and suction and a proximal opening, and a first seal in the proximal end of the fluid chamber. The fluid chamber has a distal end communicating with the cannula. The probe has a proximal handle portion, a middle portion, and a hollow distal portion. The handle portion has an axial passageway and a second seal therein. The middle portion extends from the handle portion through the first seal at the end of the fluid chamber and through the fluid chamber. The middle portion has an outer diameter shaped to contact the first seal such that the proximal end of the fluid chamber is sealed. The middle portion is also shaped to be smaller than the inner diameter of the fluid chamber, and the middle portion is provided with a second axial internal passageway extending therethrough. The distal portion extends at least partially through the cannula and has an outer diameter smaller than the inner diameter of the cannula. A second probe may be inserted through the second seal of the first probe, through the axial passageway in the handle portion, through the internal passageway in the middle portion, and out through the distal portion and the cannula.
