A Cr.sub.2 N film or a mixed Cr.sub.2 N and Cr film formed by physical vapor deposition on the outer circumferential surface of a piston ring which is in contact with the inner circumferential surface of a cylinder. The axial width of the outer circumferential surface of the piston ring is 0.6 mm or less. The nitrogen content of the film is 11 to 17 percent by weight. The Vicker's hardness of the film is in the range of HV1300 to HV2000. The thickness of the film is 3 .mu.m to 30 .mu.m.

The present invention is a process to express a target peptide in a large amount and accumulate the target peptide in host cells in the form of inclusion bodies. The process comprises: A) culturing host cells transformed with a plasmid able to express a gene coding for a fusion protein represented in the formula A--L--B, wherein B is a target peptide, A is a protective peptide comprising a 90-210 amino acid fragment E. coli .beta.-galactosidase, and L is a linker peptide positioned between the C-terminus of the protective peptide and the N-terminus of the target peptide and selected so that when the fusion protein is treated by an enzyme or chemical substance, the target peptide is separated, and wherein the protective peptide and linker peptide are selected so that the isoelectric point of the fusion protein in between 4.9 and 6.9; B) obtaining an insoluble fraction comprising inclusion bodies by homogenization of th cultured transformed cells; C) solubilizing the fusion protein in the inclusion bodies by treatment of the insoluble fraction with a solubilizing agent; and, D) cleaving the peptide bond between the C-terminus of the linker peptide and the N-terminus of the target peptide of the solubilized fusion protein to release the target peptide from the other peptides followed by purification of the target peptide.

A process for producing an oxide superconductor, comprising putting a formed body of raw material powders for forming an oxide superconductor on silver or silver oxide within a pan which does not melt at the melting point of silver, heating the pan to a temperature higher than the melting point of silver to bring the formed body to a semi-molten state with the formed body being floated on molten silver, cooling the pan and taking the formed body out of the re-solidified silver. This process enables a large bulk material having a diameter of 10 cm or more to be produced without occurrence of cracking.

The present invention relates to a process for preparing an oxide superconductor having a high critical current density, a uniform structure and an excellent mechanical property and thermal stability, which comprises heating raw material powders of a REBaCuO system at 1050.degree. C. or higher, cooling the material for solidification, pulverizing and mixing the solidified material to homogeneously disperse the structure of the solidified material, molding the material, optionally mixed with silver oxide or silver, into a predetermined shape, and reheating the molding to 1050.degree. C. or higher to grow a superconducting phase.

A method of producing a superconductor of metal oxides having the following composition:(M.sub.1-x Ca.sub.x)(Ba.sub.1-y Sr.sub.y).sub.2 Cu.sub.4 O.sub.8wherein M stands for a rare earth element, x is 0 or a positive number of less than 1 and y is 0 or a positive number of less than 1, is disclosed, which includes hydrdolyzing an organic solvent solution or dispersion containing (a) alkoxide or fine particulate of a hydroxide of the rare earth element M, (b) alkoxides orfine particulate of hydroxides of Ca, Ba and Sr and (c) alkoxide, nitrate or fine particulate of hydroxide of copper in presence of water and nitrate ions. The alkoxides or hydroxides of Ca and Sr are present only when x and y are not zero, respectively. The hydrolyzed product is then dried, shaped and pyrolyzed to obtain the superconductor.

A method is disclosed of forming an oxide superconducting film comprising the steps of (1) mixing (a) the vapors of organic metal materials in such proportions as to provide a predetermined metal composition, or (b) said organic metal materials in such proportions as to provide a predetermined metal composition vaporizing and mixture, and (2) bringing the mixture into contact with a heated substrate so that an oxide superconducting film is formed on said substrate by a chemical vapor deposition process, wherein laser light is applied onto said substrate during formation of said oxide superconducting film on said substrate, whereby the crystallographic orientation of said oxide superconducting film being formed in the irradiated area of said substrate is such that the c-axis is parallel to the substrate.
