Abstract: A method of manufacturing a rubber reinforcing steel cord is provided, wherein the steel cord has a steel wire plated with metal containing copper and having on its surface an oil layer containing a cobalt compound, and includes an application step in which the oil containing a cobalt compound is applied to the steel wire or a steel cord plated with metal containing copper, and a step of twisting the steel wires.

Abstract: A metal cord for reinforcing rubber articles and a pneumatic tire including metal cords to reinforce tire components such as carcass, breaker and band are disclosed, wherein a metal cord according to one aspect of the present invention comprises filaments having a tensile strength of from 4000 to 5500 N/sq.mm and a diameter of from 0.10 to 0.35 mm and the filaments are twisted together, the filaments before twisted are two-dimensionally waved so that the elongation after fracture of the cord becomes in a range of from 2 to 6%. According to another aspect of the present invention, the metal cord is a single filament having a tensile strength of from 4000 to 5500 N/sq.mm and a diameter D of from 0.10 to 0.35 mm, and the filament is two-dimensionally waved so that the elongation after fracture becomes in a range of from 2 to 6%.

Abstract: A pneumatic tire comprises a cord-reinforced layer such as carcass, belt, bead reinforcing layer which is made of metallic cords, each metallic cord is made up of six to twelve metallic filaments whose diameter is in a range of from 0.15 to 0.45 mm, the metallic filaments include waved filaments and unwaved filaments, each waved filament is two-dimensionally waved at a wave pitch and wave height before twisted, the wave pitch is in a range of from 5.0 to 35.0 times the diameter of the filament, and the wave height is in a range of from 0.2 to 4.0 times the diameter of the filament, and the metallic filaments are twisted together into the cord at a twist pitch of from 10 to 40 mm so that the two-dimensionally waved filaments are each subjected to a certain rotation around its axial.

Abstract: A tire reinforcing steel cord (1, 10) is provided which has a 1nulln structure formed by twisting together four to seven individual wires having a wire diameter of 0.20 to 0.45 mm, the steel cord being wound a plurality of times in the vicinity of opposite side edges of a belt section of a tire, wherein the steel cord has a substantially spiral or a substantially planar wavy deformation, has an elongation of 1.2% to 2.0% when applying a tensile load of 50 N in a tensile test according to JIS B 7721, and becomes substantially linear with its wavy deformation disappearing under a tensile load in the range of 50 to 250 N. When the steel cord is embedded in a tire as a zero degree belt cord, it stretches to a moderate extent so as to track the expansion of the tire in the radial direction during the vulcanization process in the molding of the tire, and since the steel cord has low stretch after the tire has been molded, it is possible to restrain expansion of the tire in the radial direction during continued high speed rotation of the tire.

Abstract: A tire cord having core filaments preformed into a helical configuration while maintaining the core filaments in a parallel, side-by-side relationship. The core filaments are not twisted or stranded together. High tensile strength sheath filaments are also preformed into a flattened helical configuration so that the sheath filaments can be wrapped around the side-by-side core filaments such that the sheath filaments do not put such tension on the core filaments as to cause the core filaments to bunch. The core filaments are maintained in a flat, side-by-side configation so that no voids are formed and rubber can penetrate into the tire cord. The core filaments may number from three to six and the sheath filaments from one to seven. The cross-section of the tire cord is flattened and confined within an oval-shaped outer bound, the oval outer bound being characterized by a major axis and a minor axis. It is desirable that the minor axis be no greater than 60% of the major axis to created the appropriate difference in the bending modulus of the tire cord in the horizontal versus the vertical direction.
