Abstract:
A large diameter rope having improved fatigue life on a sheave, pulley, or drum is disclosed. This rope includes a blend of HMPE filaments and liquid crystal polymer filaments selected from the group of lyotropic polymer filaments and thermotropic polymer filaments. The rope may be constructed as a braided rope, a wire-lay rope, or a parallel core rope.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire comprises a tread reinforcing belt made of metallic cords, each of the metallic cords is made up of six to twelve metallic filaments whose diameter is not less than 0.15 mm but less than 0.25 mm, the six to twelve metallic filaments are grouped into a plurality of bunches each including two to four filaments, the filaments of each bunch are twisted together at a first twisting pitch, the bunches are twisted together into the cord at a final twist pitch Pc of from 10 to 40 mm, the first twisting pitch is more than the final twist pitch, and the bunches each include at least one waved filament which is two-dimensionally waved at wave pitches Pw in a range of from 5 to 30 times the diameter (d) of the filament and a wave height (h) in a range of from 0.2 to 3.0 times the diameter (d).
Abstract:
A hybrid steel cord and method of making such cord which includes, in contact with one or more carbon steel wire(s), at least one stainless steel wire whose microstructure contains less than 20% of martensite (% by volume). Articles made of plastic and/or rubber, in particular tire envelopes or the carcass reinforcement plies of such envelopes embodying such cords.
Abstract:
A pneumatic tire comprises a cord-reinforced layer such as carcass, belt, bead reinforcing layer which is made of metallic cords, each metallic cord is made up of six to twelve metallic filaments whose diameter is in a range of from 0.15 to 0.45 mm, the metallic filaments include waved filaments and unwaved filaments, each waved filament is two-dimensionally waved at a wave pitch and wave height before twisted, the wave pitch is in a range of from 5.0 to 35.0 times the diameter of the filament, and the wave height is in a range of from 0.2 to 4.0 times the diameter of the filament, and the metallic filaments are twisted together into the cord at a twist pitch of from 10 to 40 mm so that the two-dimensionally waved filaments are each subjected to a certain rotation around its axial.
Abstract:
A composite cord is provided which is simple in manufacture, highly productive, less costly, and improved in rubber penetration. The composite cord has a 1nulln construction (n is an integer from 3 to 12) with 2 to 11 metallic filaments and 1 to 5 polymer fibers having a melting point of 50 to 200 degrees twisted together. The pneumatic tire employing this composite cord for its reinforcing element is restricted in rust formation and improved in strength retention.
Abstract:
A steel cord for reinforcing a rubber product includes a core consisting of one steel filament and a sheath consisting of a plurality of steel filaments wound around the core. The steel filament of the core alternately having straight portions, whose axes of the straight portions are disposed on one line, and protrusions formed by bending. The peak of each protrusion is disposed outside of the sheath. The steel cord for reinforcing a rubber product is used in a pneumatic tire. The pneumatic tire includes a carcass having a crown portion and having a toroidal shape, a pair of beads over which the toroidal shape extends, a belt layer or belt layers for reinforcing the crown portion of the carcass, and rubber surrounding the carcass, the pair of bead, and the belt layer(s). The steel cord is used in the carcass and/or the belt layer(s).
Abstract:
A synthetic plastic rope includes a selected number of first components having a relatively high elongation characteristic and second components whose elongation characteristic is considerably lower. In one form of the invention, the rope has a central core in which the first components are located, and a plurality of surrounding strands principally constituted of second components. In other forms, the rope does not have a core and there are a plurality of strands braided (plaited) or laid (twisted) together primarily consisting of the low elongation components, but having high elongation components distributed substantially symmetrically and which in the aggregate have substantially less mass than the low elongation components.
Abstract:
A string for a tennis racket and having a composite cross-section structureaving a central reinforcing core comprising twisted Kevlar aromatic polyamide and glass yarns or Kevlar aromatic polyamide yarns, this core layer having a peripheral protective coating of a polyamide.
Abstract:
A wire rope or strand is provided with a plastic foam type internal sealant and corrosion resistant outer strands or wires to provide superior corrosion resistance at low cost for wire strands and ropes requiring a bare metal surface.
Abstract:
An interactive cord system can include sensing circuitry coupled to a system ground and an interactive cord. The interactive cord can include a plurality of non-conductive lines a plurality of conductive sensing lines at least partially woven with one or more of the plurality of non-conductive lines to form at least one touch-sensitive area along the interactive cord and one or more conductive grounding lines electrically connected with the system ground and extending at least partially along an outer portion of the interactive cord.
