    摘要: A thermal-to-electrical conversion system converts internal combustion engine exhaust heat into useful electrical energy in a hybrid vehicle system. The converted energy is sent to an energy-storage control system via a DC-DC converter. High power-density storage medium (e.g. ultracapacitors) is used in the designated “short-cycle” hybrid design to maximize transfer efficiency and capacity while minimizing weight. An upconversion circuit within the control system allows high use of the storage capacity. Employed in a lightweight vehicle platform, the system addresses the most significant barriers to achieving high transportation efficiency-mass and combustion energy loss to waste heat.

    摘要: An engine exhausts gas which is in turn exhausted through an exhaust pipe in a prescribed direction. A cooling water pump supplies cooling water to circulate a refrigerant through each of cooling water circulation paths. The cooling water circulation path includes a cooling water pipe arranged along the exhaust pipe to pass the cooling water. At stacks a plurality of thermoelectric power generation elements are attached to the exhaust pipe and the cooling water pipe successively in a direction from the upstream toward downstream of the exhaust gas. The cooling water pipe and the exhaust pipe pass the cooling water and the exhaust gas, respectively, in opposite directions so that the downstream stack has an increased difference in temperature between the exhaust pipe and the cooling water pipe, and the stacks provide power outputs having a reduced difference, and hence an increased total power output. Thus an exhaust heat recovery power generation device can provide increased thermoelectric conversion efficiency without complicated piping.

    摘要: A sound-cancelling flow-through muffler includes a linear first inner passage, and a curved or zig-zagged second outer passage that wraps around or surrounds the inner passage and that is situated between the linear first inner passage and an exterior wall of the muffler. The outer passage has a length that is equal to, or a multiple of, one-half the wavelength of sound to be cancelled by the muffler such that sound exiting the inner and outer passages destructively interferes or cancels in a sound cancellation or conversion chamber. In addition, the walls of the outer passage serve as a heat sink to extract heat from the exhaust stream and conduct the heat to the outside of the housing. Alternatively, the outer passage may have a closed such that reflects sound back toward the inner passage for cancellation, the walls of the outer passage continuing to serve as a heat sink to extract heat from the exhaust stream and conduct the heat to the outside of the housing.
