    摘要: An electrode drive circuit performs interlaced scanning, ensuring that the phases of the sustaining pulse in odd-numbered lines and even-numbered lines among L1 to L8 between surface discharge electrodes are the reverse of each other. With this, when either odd-numbered lines or even-numbered lines are displayed, the voltages applied between the electrodes of the undisplayed lines are at 0, eliminating the necessity for partitioning walls on the surface discharge electrodes. In surface discharge electrodes, X electrodes are provided on the two sides of a Y electrode and the area between the Y electrode and the X electrode on one side is assigned a display line at an odd-numbered frame, and the area between the Y electrode and the X electrode on the other side is assigned a display line in an even-numbered frame. Alternate areas between the surface discharge electrodes are assigned as blind lines and a discharge light emission in the blind lines is blocked or incident light to the blind lines from the outside is absorbed. Address electrodes are provided for each monochromatic pixel column and selectively connected with the pads above them, performing simultaneous selection of lines.

In the method the wall charges of a polarity opposite to that of the wall charges in the lit cell are left on the first and second electrodes in the unlit cell when the address period is completed, the sustain discharge pulses of opposite polarities have the first sustain discharge pulses of the first polarity and the second sustain discharge pulses of the polarity opposite to the first polarity, and the voltage of the first and second sustain discharge pulses overlapped by the voltage of the residual wall charges in the unlit cell are set so as to be lower than the discharge start voltage.

A plurality of display electrode pairs are arranged in proximity with each other inside of a pair of substrates opposed to each other with a discharge gap formed therebetween. Each display electrode includes a main pattern extending in one direction, independent discharge patterns each formed for each luminous area corresponding to a display cell, and a plurality of auxiliary patterns for electrically connecting the main pattern and the discharge patterns to each other. The auxiliary patterns are higher in conductivity than the discharge patterns.

    摘要: A plasma display device has a first representing unit, a second representing unit, a judging unit, and a selector. The first representing unit lights only one of even display lines and odd display lines which represent one frame, and the second representing unit lights only the other one of the even display lines and the odd display lines. The judging unit judges a condition for an image to be displayed, and the selector selects whichever of the first representing unit and the second representing unit is used to display an image, based on the results of judgment made by the judging unit. Consequently, the service lives of phosphors and a protecting film can be extended and sticking in a screen can be prevented.

    摘要: A three-electrode surface-discharge alternating-current plasma display panel (AC PDP) has maintenance discharge electrodes that are in parallel with one another and addressing electrodes that are orthogonal to the maintenance discharge electrodes. The maintenance discharge electrodes are connected to one another, and the maintenance discharge electrodes are independent of one another and correspond to display lines that form a screen of the PDP. Wall charges are accumulated to serve as memory media. Display data are written to the screen in separate two periods, i.e., an addressing period in which wall charges are accumulated according to the display data, to prepare for maintenance discharge (sustain discharge) and a maintenance discharge period in which the maintenance discharge is repeated to emit light. The maintenance discharge in the maintenance discharge period is carried out on every other display line and the accumulation of wall charges in the addressing period is carried out on every display line. This arrangement scans every other display line on the screen according to interlaced display signals (video signals) without producing new display data by line interpolation, thereby shortening an addressing time.
