Abstract:
A bicycle wheel rim includes a rim having a hollow inner part and an outer part which is integrally formed with the inner part. An opening is defined in radial direction of the outer part. A connection unit is formed in the outer part and includes two seats located at an inner bottom of the opening, and two sidewalls extending from the two seats. Two engaging portions are respectively formed on the two seats and located apart from each other. Each sidewall has an outside, an inside and a top face which is connected between the outside and the inside. The inside is a flat inside without any lip or flange. The sidewalls have better strength and protect the sidewalls of the tire from being deformed.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a bicycle rim assembly adapted to be coupled to a hub to create a bicycle wheel. The rim assembly includes a rim and a cover coupled to the rim. The rim defines a central plane and comprises an annular inner wall and an annular outer wall cooperating with the inner wall to define a cavity. The rim further includes annular projections spaced laterally relative to the central plane and extending substantially radially outwardly from the outer annular wall. The cover includes sidewalls disposed on lateral sides of the rim adjacent the projections, each sidewall including a lateral inner portion having a lateral thickness. The cover further includes an annular ring portion interconnecting the sidewalls, the annular ring portion including a radial thickness less than the lateral thickness of the lateral inner portion of the sidewalls. Preferably, the rim comprises a metallic material and the cover comprises a non-metallic material. For example, the rim can comprise aluminum or an epoxy matrix composite, and the cover can comprises a polymeric material, such as ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. In addition, a radial thickness of the entire cover is preferably substantially less than a radial thickness of the entire rim.In one embodiment, the projections include a laterally inwardly facing surface, a laterally outwardly facing surface, and a radially outwardly facing surface. In this embodiment, the cover engages at least a portion of each of the laterally inwardly facing surface, the laterally outwardly facing surface, and the radially outwardly facing surface. Preferably, each annular projection has a smoothly radiused radially outwardly facing surface, and each laterally outwardly facing surface that lies in a radial plane substantially parallel to the central plane.
Abstract:
A rim (5) for a bicycle wheel having a body (20) with a substantially annular extension with a radially outer portion (22) shaped for coupling with a tire is disclosed. The radially outer portion (22) has a hole (39) for an inflation valve. The radially outer portion (22) also includes, at the hole (39) and/or in an area proximal to the hole (39), at least one cross section having a different shape from that at an area distal from the hole, so as to form at least one second surface discontinuity (35) along the annular extension of the radially outer portion (22). The second discontinuity (35) makes it easier to assemble to wheel and allows an optimal coupling to be made between the rim (5), inflation valve, and tire, in the case of a tubeless wheel, and between rim (5), air chamber and tire, in the case of a wheel with an air chamber.
Abstract:
A bicycle wheel rim including an outer annular portion adapted to receive a tire and an inner peripheral radial portion that has both a plurality of circumferentially arranged spoke openings and a braking surface on this portion.
Abstract:
The invention relates to an aircraft wheel comprising a rim and a tire (20) received on the rim, the rim comprising two parts (1; 2) assembled with one another by means of assembly bolts (5), one of the parts comprising a recess (3) in which is arranged a seal (4) which is interposed between the two parts, the wheel being characterized in that at least one of the parts comprises at least one duct (6) extending beneath the seal so as to establish a leakage path between on one hand a volume of gas delimited by the rim and the tire, and on the other hand a space between the parts, the path being nominally closed by the seal when the bolts are tightened correctly but allowing gas to leak from said volume when the bolt associated with said opening is not tightened correctly or is absent.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a rim made from composite material for a tubeless bicycle wheel comprising a radially outer portion shaped for the coupling with a tire, said radially outer portion comprising a through hole for an inflation valve. Advantageously, at least one first impermeable-to-air layer is integrally associated with said radially outer portion, around said hole.
Abstract:
A sealing device forming an annular band intended to be associated with a rim for a wheel designed to accept a tire, the rim having a rim bottom extended by two flanges, the device being adapted to be fitted in such a way as to cover at least the rim bottom. The annular band comprises at least one elastomeric material comprising at least one copolymer thermoplastic elastomer containing blocks of polystirene and polyisobutylene, and a polybutene oil. Also disclosed is a mounted assembly having a wheel comprising a rim associated with a sealing device and of a tubeless tire. In addition, a method is disclosed for fitting a sealing device onto a rim.
Abstract:
A wheel (1) comprising a solid tire (2) and a rim (3), the solid tire (2) comprising a rubber base layer (4) with a reduced height (16) extending in circumferential direction of the tire (2), an inner circumferential contact surface (8) of the rubber base layer (4) being provided to contact an outer circumferential contact surface (9) of the rim (3), the solid tire (2) upon mounting to the rim (3) being provided to be pulled over the circumferential outer contact surface (9) of the rim (3) along a mounting direction at least partly running along an axial direction of the tire (2), characterised in that for each position on the outer contact surface (9) of the rim (3) and the inner contact surface (8) of the tire (2), in mounting direction of the tire (2), at most one engaging set (10) of the protrusion (11) and the corresponding groove (12) is provided.
Abstract:
A bicycle wheel rim having a circular base portion including a proximal surface and a distal surface, and a pair of integral sidewalls extending generally radially outward from an intersection region of the proximal surface and the distal surface. The distal surface of the rim has a central hump, a trough contiguous with the central hump extending axially outward from the hump, and a flat shelf immediately adjacent, contiguous with, and extending axially outward from the trough. Another embodiment of the invention is directed to a bicycle wheel including the embodied rim, a plurality a spokes engaged at respective ends thereof with the rim and a hub engaged with the plurality of spoke members at opposite ends thereof. Another embodiment of the invention is directed to a bicycle wheel assembly comprising the embodied wheel and a tube and/or tire mounted on the rim.
Abstract:
A mounted assembly of the tubeless type for a bicycle, includes a rim and a tire having beads. The rim includes two wings attached to two seats which receive the tire beads. A tire reception zone is formed between the wings. The rim and/or the tire includes a stabilizing structure for stabilizing the air pressure at the level of the tire's outer surface, in zones which are neither in contact with the ground nor in contact with the rim, to a value of less than 2 bar. The stabilizing structure enables air to be conducted from the tire to atmosphere if a bead loses contact with its seat. The stabilizing structure can be in the form of holes in the wings and/or the seats, or in the form of channels or projections disposed on the wings. Alternatively, the stabilizing structure can be in the form of projections formed on the tire sidewall and arranged to contact the wings.
