Abstract: A selectable increase in the common source inductance is obtained by a layout for a power module used for a half-bridge phase leg in an inverter for an electrically-driven vehicle. The power module comprises a pair of transistor dies connected to positive, negative, and AC conductive tracks for carrying bridge currents. The module includes a pair of gate drive pins and a pair of gate drive coils connecting a respective pin and die. The gate drive coils are disposed in a region between the positive and negative tracks containing a flux generated by the currents having a locally greatest rate of change. The coils may preferably be comprised of traces on an auxiliary printed circuit board incorporated in the module. The gate drive pins can be on the gate side or the emitter side of the transistor dies.

Abstract: A power converter receives a DC supply voltage across a phase leg. The phase leg comprises an upper switching device and a lower switching device coupled across the DC link, wherein a junction between the upper and lower switching devices is configured to be coupled to a load. A gate driver is coupled to the phase leg activating the respective upper switching device according to an upper gate signal and activating the respective lower switching device according to a lower gate signal in response to a pulse-width modulation (PWM) control signal at a PWM frequency. The gate driver shuffles among a plurality of alternate paired sets of dead-time inserted signals. Each paired set of dead-time inserted signals corresponds to a different distortion of a current flowing in the load, so that overall distortion is dispersed.

The irregular polyhedron shaped magnet assembly may be disposed in the magnet opening and may define a magnetization direction, wherein a height along the magnetization direction and perpendicular with a lamination plane of the rotor is greater at both ends than at a central portion disposed therebetween.

Abstract: A vehicle power system may include a power module assembly having a plurality of alternating heatsinks and phase legs arranged in a deck. Each of the phase legs includes a semiconductor switch in contact with a dielectric layer. The dielectric layer is sandwiched between the switch and one of the heatsinks such that heat generated by the switch is transferred to the heatsink via the dielectric. At least one of the heatsinks may define a coolant channel. The coolant channel may be U-shaped. The coolant channel may have inlet and outlet regions. The inlet region may be opposite the outlet region. The coolant channel may have a divider to segregate ingress and egress coolant paths. The coolant channel may have obstructions to form a tortuous path. The obstructions may be wavy fins.

Abstract: In at least one embodiment, a single sintered magnet is provided having a concentration profile of heavy rare-earth (HRE) elements within a continuously sintered rare-earth (RE) magnet bulk. The concentration profile may include at least one local maximum of HRE element concentration within the bulk such that a coercivity profile of the magnet has at least one local maximum within the bulk. The magnet may be formed by introducing alternating layers of an HRE containing material and a magnetic powder into a mold, pressing the layers into a green compact, and sintering the green compact to form a single, unitary magnet.

Abstract: A vehicle electric machine may include a stator having end windings extending axially from the stator. A rotor may be disposed within the stator and including an endcap having an outer face defining outlets and a furrowed outer periphery with an edge configured to distribute coolant released from the outlets onto the outer face to different axial locations of the end windings during rotation. The furrowed outer periphery may taper toward an in inner flat portion. The outlets may be contained within the inner flat portion. The furrowed outer periphery may be symmetric about any axis perpendicular to and passing through an axis of rotation of the rotor. The outer face may further define channels extending from the outlets to the edge. The channels may be recessed in the outer face. The furrowed outer periphery may define concentric circumferential ridges.
