Abstract: A fuel sender including a container in a fuel tank of a motor vehicle and, in the container, a filter, a fuel pump, a jet pump, and a pressure regulator. An upstream side of the filter and the fuel pump are connected through a first passage in a first end wall of the container. A downstream side of the filter is connected to an interior volume of the container through a convoluted second passage on a second end wall of the container. A pressure regulator on the second end wall of the container maintains fuel pressure at a substantially constant magnitude by variably restricting flow through the second passage. A venturi throat in the second passage aspirates fuel from the fuel tank into the container. The efficiency of the jet pump is maximized by minimizing the length of the convoluted second passage. Vibration isolating seals minimize the transfer of vibrations and pressure pulsations to the container. In a preferred embodiment, the filter has electrically conductive elements which are connected to a ground circuit of the motor vehicle for protection against static discharge.

Abstract: A fuel filter for the fueling system of a motor vehicle has a non-conductive housing defining a chamber in which porous sintered plastic discs are mounted transversely across the chamber defined by the housing. The discs are of graduated porosity, and tend to strip electrons from the hydrocarbon paraffin of which the fuel consists. The charges generated by the stripping are neutralized by the positive ions generated by an adjacent disc.

Abstract: A directional electrostatic dissipating fabric and method of making such fabric constructed of a woven or knitted base fabric having an integrally woven or knitted grid structure which is raised above only one surface of the base fabric forming a fabric with a raised grid on one side and a smooth or substantially smooth grid on the other side thereby resulting in increased, directional electrostatic dissipation performance from the side having the raised grid. The grid is formed from an electroconductive yarn plied to a carrier yarn which is then integrally woven or knitted into the fabric in the warp direction, the fill direction or both, thereby producing a fabric which exhibits the rapid, yet controlled, directional dissipation of static electricity into the air. Such fabric can be used for anti-static covering cloths, filtration media and the like; but is particularly adapted for use in anti-static garments and it is particularly comfortable when the smooth or substantially smooth surface is adjacent the wearer and the raised surface is on the outside of the garment.

Abstract: A closed filter container containing at least one filter cartridge mounted on a plate, whose periphery is clamped between the lid and rim of said container electrically isolating said cartridge and plate from the walls including the lid of the container as disclosed in applicant Harms' prior U.S. Pat. No. 3,720,322. Mounted between the plate and a wall of the container is at least one electrically conducting resilient finger which maintains electrical contact across the gasket which isolates the plate and cartridges regardless of the flexing of the plate due to variations of pressure inside the container. The plate also is provided with three handle members to facilitate removal of the plate and cartridges from the container. The three handle members also act as legs to stably support the plate and cartridges during replacement of the cartridges. Furthermore, these handles have improved configurations for both ease in handling and strengthening.
